JULIA O'CONNOR IS A GEEK BECAUSE SHE'S A FREAK. You might argue you can't be both, but when you meet Julia, you might have a change of opinion.

It's best not to talk about it though, since her time in Hawkins National Laboratory isn't a fairytale to gossip about. Formerly known as Number Four, Julia escaped that shithole of a prison when she was all but seven. And no, it was not her street smarts or natural-born intelligence that got her out of there, because no one at seven years old, (even seven-year-olds with the abilities to move things with their mind, and set alight to anything they stare at long enough) can escape a highly guarded Laboratory, with a next-level security system without any kind of help. It's near impossible. But Julia did have help. Not direct help, because she got out by accident. No one should blame Terry Ives for her mental state when she walked into the Hawkins Lab armed with a rifle, letting four experiments out in the process. If anything, Julia is very grateful for Terry Ives and her rifle, even if she didn't quite know or understand at the time.

But what seven year old, Julia O'Connor did that should be deemed astute, is run. She ran and she ran until the Lab was but a mere dot in her view frame, and her until her feet could carry her no more. And maybe it was just luck that led her to the O'Connor household ─ a petit bungalow on the edge of town, where a quaint couple inhabited its walls, unable to bear a child of their own. But now Julia is a little more grown-up, she likes to think the Universe was just giving back what the little girl was starved of ─ a happy, healthy home, that could provide her with the childhood she deserved.

And so, when the adoption papers went through (after quite the hassle since Julia had zero legal documents, and no birth certificate to confirm she's human) Julia kept her abilities to herself, not wanting to upset her new family because nothing could be worse than scaring them away, now her future is bright for the very first time.

Till now, Julia has lived the life of every other twelve-year-old in Hawkins ─ playful, normal, and stressful at times. But that's why Julia loves school so much, because, for seven years of her life, she believed a normal childhood was a myth. Getting homework, and cycling home after Science Club is a dream come true, because once upon a time, an unachievable dream was all it was.
