𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 ✧ ₊˚ˑ༄ؘ
Valerie Adams, acclaimed keeper for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, renowned Astronomer, and complete flirt was a favourite student from across the year. Her teachers, well most, admired her for her effortless work, and Valerie's teammates praised her for how well she exceeded on the Quidditch Pitch. Bar her competitors from the opposing house teams, she was liked amongst the houses and some would argue that she was idolized by lower years. Valerie was living her life at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with ease and pure enjoyment.
But in the space of less than an hour, Valerie's love for life was sucked out of her during the final task of the Triwizard Tournament. She had never experienced such pain until her once best friend, that carried her through her childhood, and kept her on her toes when she started Hogwarts a year after him, appeared dead on the grass. She still liked to consider him the Triwizard Champion, but only to help with the pain, that numbed her soul and ached inside of her. Cedric Diggory was the light of her life.
Like almost everything else, Valerie was good at hiding her feelings. Since Cedric died, and school progressed, spirits lower than the last, she had created a facade that her life was okay. Not amazing and fulfilling as it was during her previous years because no one expected that from her ─ she was grieving and it was okay to be sad. It was normal.
But, being the independent and strong-willed girl she was, she saw grieving as a weakness, that she didn't need to be associated with. She made herself out like she was totally fine and that her previous self had pretty much returned to its entirety ─ her happiness levels the same, her Quidditch game just as exceptional as it was before, even though she would never play alongside Cedric again. And her flirting pursuit was just as good as it once was. Valerie was and will always be a flirt. Dead best friend or not.
Harry Potter? Not so much.

meh; this is one of those plots that i get excited for when i initially create, then lose interest in it. i just know i'd never get round to writing it lmao
harry and val are less like friends and more acquaintances; sort of like you know them, but you don't
harry gets extremely awkward when they first start talking but val is completely casual
i imagine they "meet" properly at a DA meeting, and val notices how much harry struggles to gain enough confidence to talk to cho
please don't make cho the bad guy; val and cho are sort of in the same kind of position - they both lost cedric
make sure it's clear that val is grieving; don't just have her as happy as larry 24/7
these "lessons" that val gives harry in flirting i imagine to take place in like the library, or she just randomly shows up at the gryffindor common room in the middle of the night like she expects harry to be there
they do talk about cedric; it's not just the elephant in the room that they ignore
harry understands val's pain regarding cedric so make sure that he tries his best to comfort her, even if they aren't very close
in terms of friends, feel free to create your own, but as an idea, her friendship group could consist of the hufflepuff quidditch team, e.g tamsin applebee, maxine o'flaherty, malcolm preece ( see my fic "the kiss list" if you need an idea for face claims as they don't have roles in the movie :) )
