HEAD GIRL ISN'T ENOUGH. An incredible achievement, of course, but not incredible enough. If Arden Lynch wants to be Prime Minister by the time she's thirty, she needs a few more academic accomplishments than just Head Girl.
Of course, it was a slightly unrealistic career path, considering her entire education is from a school where wands are a requirement and unicorns come up on end of year assessments. Hogwarts is hardly Cambridge. But, considering she was the blip in her family's entirely Muggle system, Arden isn't going to let anyone get in her way. She will be calling 10 Downing Street her home in no time. She has the grades, and the morals, and the intelligence. Not credible grades in the British Government's mind, but she couldn't be Minister of Magic ─ she would be too far from home. Besides, the Wizarding World has too many problems Arden wouldn't know what to do with. Anyway, no one gets in her way.
Especially not mysterious, pretty-boy Regulus Black. Not a chance in hell.
And she's resolute to keep it that way when Hogwarts introduce Student Council. A select group of high achieving students to be the voice of their fellow classmates, and listen to ideas for improvement one might have. And if Head Girl isn't enough for Arden Lynch, then being Deputy Chairman for this new Student Council won't be either. She must be on top at all times. Imagine if she could put Head Girl and Chairman of Student Council on her CV when she leaves Hogwarts? The Houses of Parliament will practically be calling her name once she's graduated.
However, there's one person in her way ─ someone who wants the job just as much as she does. And Arden wouldn't be threatened if it was anyone else. She was already Head Girl, and one of the top-ranked students on academic success. She introduced the Chess Club and led the new team to a state victory. She's her Professors favourite student 99% of the time . . .
But that 1 (teeny, tiny, annoyingly small and rare occurrence) other % of the time, is stolen by Regulus Black. Hogwarts' other genius, but less loud about it. Pro on a broom, who led Slytherin to Quidditch Interhouse triumph on more than one occasion. He has excellent grades all the time, and extreme self-discipline when it comes to studying. Oh, and he's Head Boy.
