PART 8

"I don't like this plan." I whined and Scott sighed.

He opened the door and there were Isaac and Derek.

"What is he doing here?" I asked looking at Isaac

"What is she doing here? I don't trust her." Isaac spoke.

"Yeah well, she doesn't trust you either." I replied.

"You know what? And Derek doesn't really care." Derek added. "Now where's the vet? Is he going to help us or not?"

"That depends. Your friend, Jackson. Are we planning to kill him or save him?" Deaton asked.

"Save him."

"Kill him."

Derek and Scott said at the same time.

They looked at each other.

"Save him. Save him." Scott repeated.

Deaton took out jars of strange herbs and other things.

"Is that weed?" I asked and everyone looked at me. "I was just asking."

Isaac touched one of the jars and Derek grabbed his arm quickly.

"Watch what you touch." He warned him.

Isaac put his hand down.

"You're looking really submissive right now." I whispered in his ear.

He looked at me and I raised both eyebrows and smiled.

"So, what are you? Some kind of witch?" Isaac asked.

"No, I'm a veterinarian." Deaton replied. "Unfortunately I don't see anything here that's gonna be an effective defense against a paralytic toxin."

"We're open to suggestions." Derek spoke.

"What about an effective offense?" Isaac asked.

"We already tried. I nearly took its head off. And Argent emptied an entire clip into it. The thing just gets back up." Derek replied.

"Has he shown weaknesses?" Deaton asked.

"It can't swim." I answered.

"Does that go for Jackson as well?" Deaton asked.

"He's the captain of the swim team." I replied.

"Essentially, you're trying to catch two people."

Deaton walked over and pulled something out of a drawer. It was some kind of token with a weir symbol.

"A puppet. And a puppeteer. One killed the husband but the other had to take care of the wife. Do we know why?"

There were two murderers.

"I don't think Jackson could do it. His mother died pregnant too, and she was maybe murdered. I think he couldn't let the same thing happen to someone else." Scott suggested.

"How do you know it's not part of the rules?" Isaac asked.

"The Kanima kills murderers and the baby is not a murderer, so it couldn't kill the wife with the baby inside." I spoke and Isaac nodded.
