Hiccup woke to the sounds of birds chirping and dragons roaring from a distance. This was the norm for waking up in a world as magical as this, but he couldn't think of anything better to start his day. Hiccup sighed in bliss and pulled what he thought was Toothless' tail to his chest. He dismissed the pitched grumble that came from nearby.
The warmth of the sun peering into the cave lured Hiccup into ignoring his responsibilities and going back to sleep but the cold and rocky contrast of what he was laid on kept him awake and restless.
Hiccup knew he couldn't sleep his problems away and opened his eyes. He was surprised when he didn't wake up to Toothless trying to lick his face off or at least open his eyes to see him directly in front of his face.
It was refreshing to wake naturally for a change but he couldn't help but worry about where his best friend was, if not resting with him like he originally thought. He sat up and flinched when he felt something fall from his chest and land on his lap, hearing a strange squeak coming from whatever fell.
He glanced down and saw one of the baby dragons that chased after his sword last night. How could he have forgotten that Toothless wasn't the last night fury like everyone thought he was?
The baby dragon lifted their head and looked around the cave before they finally noticed Hiccup. They looked up at him with their eyes squinted in a confused manner. Hiccup leaned back but kept his eyes on the pup.
The pup stepped higher on his torso to get closer to his face before a shadow overcame them and the pup was yanked away with a yelp. Hiccup looked to see who the owner of the shadow was and was met with a familiar albino-white fury.
Hiccup grew worried when he realized this dragon was wild and most likely held some hatred against humans, despite how easily he was able to slip away from their cave with himself still intact last night.
His worries shattered as quickly as they came when the intimidating dragon dropped a singular fish onto his lap. "Eat." The dragon watched him for a moment, almost as if they were making sure he got the idea that the fish was for him before turning away and heading towards their meal.
Hiccup's hands fiddled with the fish while he thought to himself. If this dragon existed and was able to have pups of its own, were there more furies than they originally thought? Did they realize all too quickly that they were going extinct and hideaway before they were killed off?
The residue slime of the fish and dragon saliva coated his fingers the longer he held onto the meat product. He reached for his sword when he realized he wouldn't be able to eat the fish raw and he couldn't ask the dragons to make a fire without interrupting their feasting and risking his life.
