Chapter 21: I'll Always Want You

"So what's the new plan?" Nat asked as she bit into her apple.

"We are going to have round the clock guards around the Space stone, and have a team with Vision at all times," Tony tapped on the screen of his tablet as he brought up the hologram that played a timeline.

"If Thano's gets the last two stones, he will wipe half of humanity," Stranger walked around the table as he massaged his temple.

"We know that Strange, we just need to be on defense now," Steve stated as he gave Loki a side eye as he walked into the room.

"Look, we can go over this again and again till we're blue in the face. But what we all need right now is to get some rest and take shifts with the stone. I'll take the first shift tonight ," Diana stated as she stood up from her chair.

"I'll go with her," Wanda volunteered.

"As will I," Vision stood up to stand next to Wanda.

"Absolutely not, we can't have both stones together!" Tony yelled.

"Tony, Vision is the more logical choice to be with us because he will detect if anything is going on in the compound," Diana said gently.

Tony shook his head as he walked out of the room cursing.

"All right team,  let's all get some rest, we'll regroup in 0600 hours," Rhodey stood up and walked out of the room with the team following.

Steve stood up and grabbed Diana's hand as he brought it close to his lips.

"I really rather you got some rest and I'll take the first watch," Steve kissed her hand as he ran his thumb over her knuckles .

"I am not helpless Rogers, I can still help out as much as possible. Besides you need some rest, I heard how rough it got for you guys retrieving the space stone."

"I had 70 years to rest first of all, and even I wasn't a match for me. I kicked my ass," Steve gave her a coy smile as Diana smiled and kissed him.

She could see from the corner of her eye Loki make a gagging face.

"All right, if anything happens come and get me," he glanced at Loki, then back at Diana as he embraced her in a passionate kiss.

Steve walked past Loki as Loki waved goodbye.

"Goodnight," he said jokingly.

Diana attempted to walk past Loki but he jumped up from the table and blocked her from the door.

"I thought we could finish our conversation from earlier, pet."

"And I thought I'd be a millionaire by my late 20's. I guess there's disappointments to go around," she pushed him aside as she walked out of the room, with only his laugh following her.

It was roughly  3 a.m. when Diana began to feel her head grow heavy as did her eyes.

"You need some substance to stay awake," Vision stated, Diana wasn't sure if it was a question or a statement.

"Yeah I'll go grab some coffee."

"I finished the last cup, I will go make some," Wanda bit her lip as she gestured for Vision to follow.

"You're both leaving?" Diana asked.

"Yeah shouldn't I stay...."

"It doesn't take but 3 minutes Vision, besides Diana isn't as helpless as she seems," Wanda wrapped her arm around Vision as they walked up the stairs.

Diana heard Wanda's boots clicking away, but then she heard another set of footprints walking towards her.

"No wonder she was so eager to leave," Diana looked up to see Loki standing there.

"How else would I get you all to myself?"

"Loki its 3 in the morning. I am exhausted. I am not in the mood to fight with you." 

"So we won't fight, maybe you'll scream at me. But they'll be pleasurable screams I reassure you," Loki gave her a wicked smile as Diana got up and walked away from him.

"Loki if you honestly wanted me that badly than why did you let me go?" After she said that, the smile from his face disappeared.

"It's more complicated than that Diana."

"In what way Loki? There was you and me, no complications about that. But of course the God of Mischief poked his little head out and had to ruin everything."

"I DIDN'T RUIN ANYTHING!"

"Don't yell at me Loki Laufeyson! You told Thor and Tony to take me. You lied about them ever looking for me."

"And why do you think I did that?! I didn't want you to leave me like everyone else had!"

Diana shook her head as she walked away laughing at his extraordinary explanation.

"You're telling me the great God of Mischief  didn't have another alternative plan up his sleeve? Like you do now? Why else would you be here helping the Avengers?"

"For you!" Loki grabbed her shoulders as he spun her around and shook her.

"Why do you think I am doing any of this Diana? I want to be a good man. The man you need me to be. I am trying to change my ways so you will want to be with me!"

Diana shook her head as she looked at the ground and bit her bottom lip. She looked back up at Loki with glassy eyes.

"I didn't care what you had done Loki. We all have a past we're not proud but to learn from it so we don't make the same mistakes. So if I were to kiss you right now and take you back, I wouldn't be learning anything from my past mistakes now would I? "

Loki let go of her shoulders as he dropped his head shaking it back and forth.

"No matter what happens Diana, between now and then, you and Steve, or us just saving the world, I will always want you. And I am not done fighting for you. You're right though, we do learn from our past mistakes. That's why I am never letting you go again. "

Loki leaned down as he captured Diana's mouth in a rough kiss. Diana tore her mouth away from his as she slapped him and walked away.
