Chapter Two: The Ceremony

I wake up and the feeling of nerves were the first thing I felt. The Choosing Ceremony. It's today. I wake up and put on my nicest outfit and walk downstairs. "Good morning Christopher John." My mother says. "Good morning mother." I know she doesn't ask if I'm ready because she already knows the answer. No.

I eat my food with not a single word being said by me. I can't say anything. I'm too nervous. If I say something or do something wrong, it'll cost me my life. We get to the Hub and I can't seem to walk in the door. "Christopher." I see Liam with his face full of question. "What's wrong?" I just shake my head. "Then let's go." I nod and he nudges me to go inside. I find my family quickly and see that the Erudite leader, Jeanine Matthews staring right at me. I give her a quick smile and she calls my name "Christopher John Parthenon. I do assume you're ready." She smiles and I nod. "Why-" lie number two and counting "-yes. Yes I am." "Good. Since you're Candor I know you're telling the truth." Internally cringing. As the ceremony starts I look and find Liam. He smiles and I return it. "Today, you will choose the rest of your lives." Oh my gosh I can't do this. "The future belongs to those who know where they belong. Faction before blood." I jump when I hear my name get spoken out loud.

I walk down a small flight of stairs to get to the bowls. Marcus Eaton hands me the knife. When it is placed there it starts to shake profusely. I slice the knife across my hand and let the small drop of blood drip on the floor. The burning coals- Dauntless, The water- Erudite, The glass- Candor, The gray stones-Abnegation, the earth- Amity. "Christopher John." Marcus' voice booms and I look at him with an angry face. I drop the blood into the burning coals. "Dauntless!" And the loud roars of the Dauntless sound. A boy about a year older than me says "welcome to Dauntless!" I smile and sit down. I close my eyes and then I hear "Liam Payne!" He roars. I close my eyes again because I can't bare to see where he goes besides here. I open my eyes when I hear the sizzling of the blood on the coals. "Dauntless!" We roar. "Why did you choose Dauntless? You'll get killed." "Listen Christopher, if we're going to survive, we have to stick together." I nod. "Fine." We both knew that Dauntless, if they found out about us, we'd be dead. At the end of the ceremony, we start off in a sprint. I've been waiting for this my whole life. I take off before I can see Liam. Then everyone starts climbing up the pillars. God I love this faction already. We all yell at the train coming. "Hey Payne, you ready?" And I give an evil smirk. He nods. We sprint down the track and I struggle to get up to the train, but nonetheless, I do.

Now I'm out of breath so I sit on the closest seat I can find. "What a welcoming committee." A boy my age sits next to me, his hair was long and curly, and he was all dressed in blue. He is-was Erudite. "I'm Harry." He points out. "Christopher John." He takes my hand and shakes it. A lady in all black tells us to get ready. I know exactly what's about to happen. We're jumping. "Ready?" Harry says. I smile and nod "hell yeah I am." We take a small running start and jump as far as we can. When the rocks cut my arm I don't wince, I don't want to seem weak. "Hello initiates. I'm Taylor and I and my partner down there will be your instructors. Alright, who's first?" No one goes. "Well I guess that leaves me out" I blurt. Liam and Harry look at me like I'm crazy. Maybe because I am. I push myself up onto the ledge and look down. I push my body to jump and I fall into the air. The net snaps and I bounce in the net. I laugh when I get down there. I climb out with the help of another girl dressed in black. Her eyes are dark and a tidbit of her hair is a dark green color. "Congrats. You're the first jumper. What's your name? If you want, you can pick your own." I've been waiting for this my whole life. "CJ." I demand.

She smiles and nods. "First jumper CJ!" And the Dauntless give a loud roar. I'm meant to be here. I know, this is where I belong. "Finally." I mutter.
