Phil's POV
My mom told me to get out in the fresh air today. She said it would help me get over Winston. I didn't need to get over Winston. I wanted him back.
So today I decided to go outside. It was a beautiful day, though a lot brighter than my dingy room I had spent the past few weeks in. I squinted at the light as I walked down the street.
I lived in Manchester in the corner of town. My family's house was in a little row of houses across the street from a small shopping centre. In it was a Tesco with a coffee and flower shop inside, a tattoo shop, and a small McDonald's. I headed over to the centre, not sure what I wanted. I wandered around, avoiding the eyes of those who knew me. I didn't want to deal with the pity look that everyone gave me since Winston—
I suddenly bumped into someone in a Tesco uniform.
"Oh, I am so sorry!" The person said. They picked up the flowers they had dropped. "I didn't mean to bump into you."
"It's okay," I muttered, rolling my eyes. The person stood up and he smiled kindly at me. He was a bit shorter than me, not by much, with a fringe brown haircut similar to mine (except mine was black). His chocolate brown eyes stared up at me and he kept that stupid grin on his face until I backed a few steps away.
"Wipe that stupid smile of your face before I smack it off," I said rudely. His face imnediatly fell.
"I'm so sorry," He said. "I won't bother you again." He ducked his head down, clinging the blue and purple flowers to his chest and jogged back into the Tesco behind me. I stood there a second then kept walking. Why was I so rude to him? I'd always been a sweet person, smiling at everyone and being a shoulder to cry on.
I just don't like people anymore, I thought to myself. The thought of being smiley and kind was disgusting. I turned the pavement corner and stopped at the front of the tattoo shop. I smiled, seeing a lion design on the front window. Lions were my favorite animal. I don't know why, I've just always liked them.
Maybe it was impulsive, but that was how I got my first tattoo.
