6 - Finding a job (pt. 1)

Later that day I was walking around the dead heads because I had nothing else to do. I found a quiet space and sat there not wanting to think about anything. I had nothing to do and no one to talk to just the wind in my hair. Silence.

SNAP

That peace and quiet lasted about 2 minutes before someone else was near by. This place isnt even that crowded why is someone near by? I guess I wouldn't be bored but I'm fine by myself.

I started to get suspicious and even a little scared but I wouldn't let anyone see that. Whatever made that noise now kept incredibly silent so I called out to it. "I know your there, I heard you". Not bothering to get up i let him come to me but little did i know it was a whole group. These boys are stealthy and that's scary.

"Well well well, look who we have here. It's the grean bean"

"Hello Gally". His builders where carrying bits of wood and tools and one boy had a sack of rocks. Before I knew it they where all cramped into the small clearing I had found.

"You like this spot greenie?"

"What's it to you?"

"Well Alby told us we need to build you a hut in the dead heads so your away from a bunch of hormonal boys so I'm asking if you want your hut here slinthead"

"Here's fine". And with that I walked off not wanting to get in there way.

"where do you think your going?"

"I was-" he cut me off.

"No. Your gonna help us build the shuck thing, i mean you have to try every job before you get one and you dont look busy, so today your a builder".

I didnt want to argue with him and he had a point so I decided to be a builder today. "Well then what would you like me to do?".

The rest of the morning he had me help chop down the two trees that where in their way pluss they needed matterial to build my new hut. I was strangely excited to see what it looked like and was glad I was part of making it however this was hard work and I didn't like it. I was strong enough but I didnt want to be with a bunch of idiots who throw their weight around all day. Finally Gally said we could all go to lunch and it was the best thing he'd said all day. I went into the kitchen and said hello to Frypan and thanked him for my meal and then decided to sit down with Cory, Newt and Alby. Minho wasn't there because he was in the maze. When I sat down Alby was the first to talk.

"Working with the builders today i see"

"Yeah, got to try every job once right". I didn't sound too convinced or enthusiastic about it wich made him chuckle.

"Well normally you have a day or two before you start working so that you can get your head around things but you seem to be doing all right. After having to put with Gally today you can work with Cory tomorrow".

Me and Cory just looked at Alby and eachother but only nodded. We get along all right it's just that Cory is self reserved and doesn't seem too outgoing. How he is a Keeper i dont know but he must be good at what he does. Now I think about it he seems comfortable around certain people like Alby, Newt and even Minho. I'm gonna be one of those people too, i can feel it. I just need time to make it happen.

I had a nice lunch and went back to work with Gally. When everyone was over there he started talking about the structure of the hut and made sure everyone understood. They went into the rock sack and used them to build and outline of where the walls was going to go. It was a square shape and a smaller square came off it to the side. I could tell it was gonna be a nice hut. They didn't act too quickly and was relaxed about their work, Probably because there isn't too much to do around here. It took them ages to figure out the right size for the hut and I stood there judging them.

Before I knew it I was making my way over to the picnic table to find Minho messily eating his food and Alby looking slightly disgusted with him. I sat down and and Minho stopped eating and looked at me.

"What did you do on your only day off and end up looking like a sweaty stick?"

"Your asking why I look you except your more of a rock than a stick with them muscles?"

Alby laughed whilst Cory sat down at the table with Newt. They both looked at us all but Minho was finished.

"I'm taking that as a compliment but you better sleep with one eye open because you've insulted me twice now and no one gets away with that". After his comment I saw different expressions on all of there faces. Minhos was a look of awe because of the food being shoved into his mouth. Newt seemed to agree with Minhos statement like he had made the same mistake. Cory looked proud of Minho for making the comment. Alby didn't look happy at his threat but shrugged it off.

"How'd your day go then greenie?" I was annoyed at the name Newt had just given me so i rolled my eyes but I also loved how he cared.

"Well it wasn't too bad but I don't want to be a builder" I tried to make it sound like my opinion mattered but on the end it didn't.

"That's understandable. Who in their shuck mind wants to work for Gally". They all laughed n i just smiled down at my food. I had eaten most of it but wasn't that hungry and wanted to go to bed. Where is my bed?

"Guys" they all stopped laughing n looked at me. Shuck. "Umm I'd like to go to sleep now but where do I sleep". After saying that Newt turned his head away and looked at his food.

Alby answered my question. "You'll be sleeping in Newts room for now but don't worry, Newt sleeping with me in my room. This is of course temporary until your hut is built".

Newt took one last bite of his food and then told me "follow me, I'll take ya to get some rest"

We took our plates to the counter wich were taken by Kasper to be washed. We walked outside into the open green and i expected Newt to start walking towards the homestead but he didn't, instead he started walking towards the deadheads. I wasn't sure it was a good idea to follow him any more.

"c'mon snail we haven't got all the time in the world". He noded his head towards the deadheads again and expected me to follow. I didn't. Its not that I didn't trust him it's that I don't trust anyone or anything, not easily anyways. "Im not gonna kill you just trust me".

He must of had faith in me to just turn around an believe me to follow. I didn't disappoint though. We walked towards a wall and flowed it up. We kept following the wall until it stopped. We were in the corner of the glade. There was a big rock that Newt sat down by and a few smaller trees were dotted around.
