I was scrolling through my messages with Xavier and I wasn't sure to text him since he's been avoiding me like the plague since that day we kissed.
I was still in this uncertainty when the bell rang. I got up hesitantly from bed and went out. I saw Judy at the TV, her usual routine on weekends.
"You haven't done your assignments have you? "
"Nah. I don't like my new school at all. You're lucky you're having exams." she glances at me.
I shake my head, making my way for the door.
"Why would you? You keep changing schools. Bullying was the excuse last time. I'm sure you might change from this school as well. " I scoffed.
I glanced at her one last time before getting to the door. The bell rang again. I sighed.
Who could be disturbing me at Thais time? I remembered mom left early today, did she send something?
"What did mom say she was going to do? "
"There was an emergency at the hospital. She was called. "
"Okay. " I opened the door and found the courier boy in front of the door.
He handed over a parcel to me before I signed. I closed the door and checked the parcel again.
"Is it for dad?" she asked.
"No. It has my name on it. "
She shrugged while I took a seat beside her on the couch.
"It's a nice thing to check, Claire. "
I gave her the confused look and unwrapped the parcel non the less. I stared back at a letter.
Holding on to my heart, I tore the envelope away and scrolled through the slip.
"What's in there? " she poked getting closer as she collected it.
"It's for you! You've been selected!"
"For what? " I was clueless. I tried to think of anything I applied for to be selected.
"Don't just sit there looking at me. It's from Harvard. You've been selected! "
My mind suddenly shot at it. Yes! I actually applied for studentship at the university but it came real quick.
"You really sure you want to go now?" she suddenly asked dropping the slip.
I had to have a rethink. Do I want this?
"Once you do, it'll be an opportunity for dad to get you engaged to that Jake of a thing while... you and Xavier... "
My heart beat started accelerating and my head felt light.I let out a scuffle. My heart ached. I placed one of my hands at that small place in my body.
My heart.
It ached both from mental pain and emotional pain.
"I don't want any heart breaks in my life. Xavier asked me to go. Even though I don't want to, I have to focus on my life so I think it's best I do just that. For dad.... For myself.... " I zoned out at the last statement.
Was it really best I leave Xavier?
"How about you call him? "
I nodded even though I didn't mean to. Thinking about it all, I needed to get myself out of this life... I needed a treatment for my heart disease that I just discovered I had since four years ago but my parents hid it from me. Nice! Just nice!
