The sun was shining through the window of the Stark mansion's kitchen as two bodies moved around, carrying one tray each, one with food and the other with drinks. Edwin Jarvis was the first to walk out of the kitchen and out into the sun where a table had been set out in the corner of the patio. He placed down the tray of drinks on the table in front of Howard Stark who was sat against the sun with sunglasses resting on his face. Jarvis took a seat across from his employer as Peggy Carter walked out with the food. She placed the food down on the table before taking a seat herself next to Jarvis. As the group was about to dig into their dinner they were taken aback by the sound of the door opening inside of the house.
"Are you expecting company?" Peggy asked in Howard's direction, her eyes still on the door leading to the kitchen. Howard only shrugs in response as a young person stops in the same doorway that Peggy and Jarvis had just walked through.
"Why is there a flamingo in the front yard?" the person asked, leaning against the doorframe.
"Ah, that's Bernard Stark," Jarvis said with a smile on his face which soon disappeared as he realised what had just been said. The flamingo had gotten out, again.
"Really, Howard?" they asked, turning their attention over to the inventor.
"You know me," he said, "are you really that surprised?"
"Unfortunately I do," they muttered under their breath before pushing themselves off of the doorframe and acknowledging the, now standing, woman at the table.
"I'm Agent Peggy Carter," she said, her hand out-stretched towards the person with a sweet smile on her face.
"Y/N Stark," they said, gripping her hand and giving it a firm shake before letting it fall back down. Y/N smiled back at her before sitting down in the empty seat next to Howard as Peggy sat back down next to Jarvis.
"I didn't know you had a sibling, Howard," she said.
"Well, it's a pleasure to see you again, Y/N," Jarvis said, smiling at their new guest.
"The pleasure is all mine," Y/N said.
"Let's eat," Howard said, ignoring Peggy's previous question about his younger sibling who had arrived unannounced and now had a plate set out in front of them. It wasn't that surprising that Howard didn't answer, or that he hadn't mentioned Y/N, he never did speak much about his family. The four of them ate their dinner mostly in silence until their plates were empty and the boys left the table to go and deal with the third member of the Stark family. Bernard.
"You know I've heard about you," Y/N said, turning to face Peggy after Howard and Jarvis had walked back inside.
"You have?" Peggy asked, furrowing her brow, confused.
"You deserve more recognition than you get," Y/N said, leaning back in their chair, "you're just as brave as any soldier."
"I appreciate it, but I doubt anyone else thinks the same."
"Because you're a woman?"
"I'm rarely assigned real cases, most of the time I'm the one taking lunch orders."
"Peggy, come on, you deserve so much better than being some douche's delivery woman," Y/N said, causing Peggy to laugh at the comment. "I know you were the one who proved my idiot brother's innocence."
"I guess I did. Doesn't make things any easier though."
"I get it," Y/N said, offering her a weak smile. Peggy looked up at them as they opened their mouth to continue speaking, to explain, but they quickly closed it back up once they noticed their brother coming around the corner with Jarvis. The two of them were out of breath, and Jarvis had sweat stains forming under his armpits. Y/N pressed their lips together to keep themselves from smiling at the sight of it.
"You two look tired," Peggy said, pulling out the chair next to her to make space for Jarvis who moments later slumped down in it.
"Well we did just chase a flamingo around the front yard," Howard said, sitting back down next to his sibling.
"Are you sure you did any of the chasing?" Y/N asked, raising an eyebrow in their brother's direction, not fully facing him.
"Very funny," he said, giving them a gentle nudge.
"I knew I should've become a comedian," Y/N said, shaking their head and giving Howard a side-smile before looking back over at Jarvis who returned the smile, confirming their suspicions.
The conversation picked back up on a different topic and continued for another couple of hours before the clock struck and it was time for everyone to head to bed if they didn't want to hate themselves in the morning. It was just as good that they broke apart anyway, the conversation was dying down and they had had an eventful night. Jarvis took the extra time to help Y/N get set up in one of the rooms before heading off to bed himself for a good night's sleep.
