A couple of days had passed since Y/N's arrival at the Stark estate and no time had been wasted making themselves feel at home. It came as no surprise that Y/N preferred spending their time with Jarvis and Peggy rather than their brother, the agent getting most of their attention. She was confused at first but Howard never did speak much about his family, she simply assumed that the two weren't that close. Peggy wanted to know more but wasn't sure if she'd get an answer asking either of the Stark siblings, perhaps it would be better if she waited a bit before doing so.

The early morning sun made its way through the crack in the curtains and landed on the face of the person soundly sleeping in the soft bed. Their sleep didn't last much further with the sun committing a personal attack against them, causing them to wake up. Y/N grunted and threw the covers aside, situating their elbows on the bed to push away from the ray of light hitting their eyes. They muttered a silent curse in response to being woken up so early but gave in and got dressed for the day. After getting dressed, they pulled on some shoes before walking out of their room and closing the door shut behind them. Y/N walked down the hall towards the staircase, passing by Howard's room which they only gave a quick glance before picking up the pace and hurrying down the stairs. The moment their feet hit the ground floor their nostrils filled with the scent of freshly brewed coffee coming from the kitchen. As they walked closer they could see that Peggy was seated at the table with an empty plate in front of her and a cup of coffee in her hand. She looked up as the sound of footsteps reached her and smiled at the sight of Y/N standing in the doorway.

"Morning," she said, placing down the plain white cup on the table.

"Morning," they replied. Y/N took a couple of careful steps into the kitchen, assessing the woman before them. "Mind if I grab some coffee?"

"Go ahead," Peggy said. Y/N gave her a short nod and walked past the table towards the counter. They grabbed an identical cup to Peggy's from the cupboard and filled it up with coffee from the pot before walking back over to the table and sitting down in the chair opposite hers.

"So, what are you up to this morning?"

"Nothing much, just getting ready for work."

Y/N took a sip of their coffee, thinking. "Can I join you?"

"I suppose," Peggy said after a moment of consideration. Y/N smiles up at her in response and takes another sip of their coffee, happy that she had approved of their plan. The two of them continued to enjoy their breakfast before breaking apart to get ready to leave for Peggy's work.

"I got us a ride," Y/N said, dangling a pair of keys in front of them as Peggy walked down the staircase to meet them.

"One of Howard's cars?" she asked, taking the keys in her hand to examine them.

"Yep," Y/N said with a proud smile. "Started off as a junk-car but now it's as good as new."

"Are you sure he'll be alright with us taking it?" Peggy asked, tilting her head slightly with the question.

"He won't even notice that it's gone," Y/N said with a small smile which faltered as soon as Peggy turned her back to them and began walking outside. They let out a breath before following her through the hall towards the front door, Peggy pulled the wooden door open and took a step back to let Y/N past. They walked out of the door and dropped their feet down the two steps before taking a couple of steps on the pavement, taking in the nice weather they were having that day, feeling it a waste to spend any time behind a desk. Peggy walked outside and locked the door behind her before joining Y/N on the walk towards the garage where the car was parked alongside many others. The two of them climbed inside of a light pink car and backed out of the garage, onto the street. They sped down the streets towards the SSR, arriving in a matter of ten minutes.

Peggy led Y/N up the stairs to where the main office was, they remained in the entryway as Y/N scanned the room, seeing only men. They nodded at the sight before speaking to the woman next to them.

"Yeah, no, I can see why you don't like it here," they said, nodding another time and turning to face her as a blonde man approached them. Peggy greeted him with a polite smile.

"Carter," the blonde said, gaining their attention. "Who's this?"

"Thompson, this is Y/N Stark," Peggy said, gesturing with her hand towards Y/N whose face remained emotionless. "Y/N, this is Jack Thompson."

"Another Stark, huh?" he said with a slight chuckle. He pulled his hand out of his pocket and extended it to Y/N who after a moment's consideration, shook it firmly. Thompson smiled at them and turned his head towards one of the desks after letting go of their hand.

"Sousa! Come over here," he said in the direction of a dark-haired man who closed the file open on his desk before beginning to walk over to where the three of them were standing. Thompson turned back to face Peggy, giving her a final order before walking away, himself. "Hey, while I go down to the lab, why don't you start getting the lunch orders?"

"I see why you complain," Y/N said, eyeing the blonde man as he walked away from them towards the other side of the room, a small scowl spreading across their face. It was soon washed away when the agent he had called over finally reached them.

"Hi, Daniel Sousa," he said, extending his hand. The two shared a handshake and the emotionless expression had returned to Y/N's face.

"Y/N Stark. Nice to meet you."

"He's not as bad as the rest of them, don't worry," Peggy said in Y/N's ear, causing them to ease up a little.

"Well, I gotta get back to work, I'll talk to you guys later," Sousa said. He offered them both a polite smile before returning to this desk. Now, with nothing else keeping them by the entryway, the two of them made their way over to Peggy's desk near the back of the room. She takes a seat in the chair in front of the desk and gets to work while Y/N simply leans against the desk and watches, tapping their fingers.

"Is this place really worth it?" Y/N asked after a moment's silence.

"Hm?"

"Peggy. You spend all day surrounded by sexist assholes who don't appreciate you. Five minutes here made that extremely clear," Y/N said staring out of the window, not wanting to see Peggy's reaction to their honesty regarding something she valued so highly. It was quiet for a moment before Y/N spoke again. "I have an idea."

"Really?" Peggy asked and leaned back in her chair, intrigued.

"Let's get out of here," Y/N said with a playful smile, pushing themselves off the desk.

"Y/N, I can't just leave."

"Why not? Let those bastards get their own lunch. Do something for yourself and take a day off."

"Y/N..."

Y/N smiled at the brunette in the chair, still wearing the playful smile as they took hold of her hand and began gently pulling on her arm. "Come on, it'll be fun," they said. "You deserve a break."

"Alright," she said, giving in with Y/N's infectious smile spreading onto her lips as she stood up from the chair and followed them out of the office as if the two were just walking around the building and not ditching work to go and do something completely different.
