They hurried down to the car and climbed inside, buckling their seat belts before driving around in the neighborhood to just take in their surroundings. After a couple of minutes of driving around Peggy parked the car on the side of the street near the diner where her friend Angie worked. She smiled at her companion as the two of them got out of the car and approached the diner, through the window they could see a brunette woman walking standing by the counter, failing to hide her discontent. Peggy stepped forward and pushed the door open, the small bell situated above the door announcing their presence. The waitress looked up at the new customers, posture straightening with a smile on her face once she noticed that it was a friendly face walking through the door.

"Peggy, thought you'd be at work," Angie said as the two reached her.

"I was," Peggy said. "This is Y/N, Howard's younger sibling. They convinced me to take a day off."

Angie's gaze shifted over to Y/N with an impressed look on her face as she spoke. "Oh, we're gonna be friends. I'm Angie," she said. She turned around to see her boss eyeing her so she gestured for Peggy and Y/N to follow. "Come on, I'll get you a table so my boss thinks I'm actually working."

Under the eyes of her boss, Angie leads her two friends over to one of the unoccupied tables inside of the diner and places down a menu each in front of them. She was about to walk over to another customer when she was hit with a thought that pulled her back to their table. "Oh, Peggy!" she said. "You know that rude guy that always comes in here?" Peggy nods, allowing her to continue. "He left a huge tip the other day and I haven't seen him since."

"Really?" Peggy said, trying to keep from smiling. "That's great."

Y/N's gaze shifts over to Peggy, an eyebrow raised as they observed the agent across from them. She didn't seem very surprised by this news, as if she already knew. Of course she did. They smiled in her direction in response.

"Did you take a day off or?" Angie asked.

"Well..," Peggy started, looking in front of her.

"She just left," Y/N said.

"Peggy!" Angie gasped. "You didn't!"

"I did," Peggy said sheepishly.

"Who are you and what have you done with Peggy Carter?" Angie said, a hand on her hip.

"It's all Y/N's fault," Peggy said, the smile having returned to her face.

"Well, whatever you're doing, keep doing it," Angie said to Y/N before walking over to another customer that had been flagging her down.

Y/N leaned back in their chair, looking at the brown-haired woman. "You know what I wanna do?" they said.

"What?" Peggy asked, playing along.

"Take you dancing."

"I don't know..."

"Say yes!" Angie chimed in as she walked past, carrying a tray of dishes.

"Angie!" a man, proving to be her boss, called out from behind the counter. "Back to work."

"Keep thinking about it," Y/N said, leaning over the table for a moment before standing up. "I gotta go, promised Howard I'd meet with him. See you later."

"Bye," Peggy said, sending them off with a sweet smile. She watched as they walked out the dinner and onto the street as Angie stopped by her table another time, notepad in hand.

"So..," she said, sliding into the now empty seat, a playful smile on her lips.

"Don't you have to work?"

"Oh come on! Tell me about you and Y/N."

"There's nothing to tell."

"I'm just saying, you two would make a cute couple."

Angie stands up and walks over to the counter to greet two new customers, leaving her friend alone to consider the words just spoken. She glanced back at the door, Y/N still on their mind. No. She had to get back to work, it was fun while it lasted but the fun was over. Peggy closed the menu in front of her on the table and stood up, moving towards the door. She waved Angie goodbye before walking out and getting inside of the car which they had borrowed from Howard that morning and drove back to the SSR.
