You stand there for a second more, watching as Jamie pulls his hand away, his eyes falling and his brow creasing in confusion.

He turns to leave the room, then spots you, and stops.

You and Jamie stare at each other, frozen to the spot while you feel nothing besides bewilderment.

You look away from Jamie to Haru, who is watching you with a glint in his eye, and you swear you see the faintest smirk tug at his lips.

No one knows what to say.

No one wants to speak first.

Frozen, confusion, Haru.

"Is everything alright y/n? Did you need me?" Haru asks, walking closer and standing next to Jamie.

Your response is delayed. "I...no."

"So..." Haru smiles. "What are you doing outside my room?"

"I was just- I was going to my dorm...I spotted Jamie and I wanted to speak to him, sorry to bother you both but-"

"What did you want to speak to him about?"

Your eyes flick to Jamie, who still hasn't said anything, he's staring hardly at you, the hand that held Haru's clenched at his side.

You turn back to Haru, reflecting his smile. "Nothing of much importance...you know...he's my friend, and I just wanted to check up on him. You say hello to your friends when you see them don't you?"

"Of course."

"So, that's all, I'll be off then. Bye Jamie, bye Haru."

"Before you go," Haru says quickly, "I heard some rumours around...that you and Jamie were a 'thing'."

You frown. "A thing? Is this because of what you saw on the running track? Because that was a mistake..."

You have a hunch deep down you and Jamie could never be a real couple because of his duties and your own. You try to ignore it, but if the idea surfaces for even a second it breaks your heart.

Haru displays a knowing wink. "I have numerous sources."

"I need to go." Your eyes dart frantically back to Jamie, who is still frozen. "I just-"

"-Why not stay and tell me! I promise I won't leak your special secret!" Haru's voice is so sweet and genuine it's scary. You're frightened of how good an actor he is. Which sounds silly, but for manipulating Leviathan members, it is frightening.

You're scared out of your mind not because of him, but because of what he's so clearly doing to Jamie. "No, it's fine, you two seem to be fine. I don't want to intrude."

Haru finally backs down, knowing if he pushes anymore Jamie will get suspicious. But even if he didn't you would guess Jamie wouldn't even notice, still stuck in another world.

You glance back up at your Partizan Partner. "Jamie."

His trance finally breaks. "Yeah, I'll come with you, bye Haru."

You both leave the room, and Haru shuts the door after you, flashing a grin before he disappears behind the dark wood.

The usual small space between you and Jamie has tripled in size as you walk through the Ivy corridor that day. You don't know if it's you or him that's keeping the distance, but you could cut the tension with a knife.

"Were you okay in there?"

Jamie's feet make soft sounds on the purple carpet. "I was thinking."
