In truth, he had another option. He could've lied, he could have told them he had another quirk. No one but Inko and him knew.
But he told them truth, it could argued that he was a stupid little kid who knew nothing but truth. But in all honesty, Izuku knew better.
Izuku had guessed it began three or four months earlier.

He'd been following Katsuki around, like a puppy. When Katsuki fell, and of course like the loyal subject he was, Izuku ran to help. And the thought of not knowing if Katsuki was okay filled him with this emotion, it made him run faster. It made him feel alive. And right then, it hooked Izuku. But it was only when the rush faded that he truly became addicted.
Yeah, it was then that Izuku decided he needed that feeling back. So he used everything in his power to get it back. Including telling everyone that he was quirkless. Here's where the childness crept in, he thought the drama would go on for a few months at most. But it carried on with him.
But enough about the past, we have to jump forward to complete this story. It was middle school, or junior high. When this story actually takes place.
--------
Years of misery passed when Katsuki actually gave a good suggestion, for Izuku to jump off the roof of the building. Izuku thought about it. It could give me the adrenaline again... Yeah, after all this time Izuku is still chasing after the feeling.
Being beat up isn't that good of a ego booster, sure running away gave for great adrenaline. But now Izuku is looking for less... Apauling remedy for his addiction. Of course suicide is a horrible option, Izuku would never. Well, he would, but not for adrenaline. That wasn't what Izuku was focusing on.
Parkour was something he always loved. He noted that hero's used it to move around most of the time when the road is blocked. And as soon as he found it, the feeling came back, just watching other people dangle dangerously from hundreds of feet up filled him with anticipation.
--------
He had gathered all the pity he could and got in total $3.80. Pitiful young Izuku thought, rubbing some ice on his swollen cheek. Before word got out that Izuku had money he had $20 at least.
But he took all his money, and with his head low asked his mother to enroll him into parkour class. Inko was hesitant, but they were well off and this was the first time Izuku expressed emotions of his age. Inko found the word that described the look in his eyes, it was admiration along with a longing.
Inko made more than one call that day, even after enrolling him into professional parkour classes. A lightbulb had sparked, and she finally had some sense to enroll Izuku into fighting classes.

Izuku packed his things up, it was the weekend. And he hadn't been outside in forever, always boarded up in his room, his depression pit. It would feel good to break a sweat once in a while.
Izuku sighed, looking at his pile of homework. He had just made it home and tried to do something productive. But just looking at the work made him tired. He flipped his pencil in his fingers, and put his pencil to the paper. Sounds of scratching on paper filled he air.
Izuku stretched, his spine was sore from slouching to see the little printed words. And now that he looked at the time it was half past midnight. Izuku shrugged, he always had trouble doing homework. Staying up hours on end when others took minutes. He just couldn't focus.
Izuku wanted to sleep as soon as his head hit the pillow, but sleep was about as dead as he felt. He kept twisting and turning, trying to get into a comfortable position. But nothing suficed.
Izuku groaned, and decided that now was a good a time as ever to just go out for a late night exercise. Especially because his legs couldn't be kept still.
Grabbing on a light gray hoodie from the ground, Izuku trudged his way downstairs. Finally reaching his front door, he grabbed the keys hung from a hood beside the door frame. And he was gone, Inko probably asleep having just come back from work.

With a certain pro hero on a roof in an area to which a certain teen in unfamiliar with, he caught a glimpse of green, untame hair.
Immediately Yamada thought this was shady. Perhaps a bit of a scare will make the second think their choices? This was Yamada's mindset as hr approached our young protagonist.
"Hello!" Yamada spoke, it made the teen jump. "Are you lost? These streets are pretty dangerous, do you need help?" Yamada bombarded him with questions, hoping it would confuse him. Izuku's gaze caught sight of Yamada.
"Yeah, I kinda got lost." Izuku muttered out, quickly adverting his eyes to the ground. Wanting no more than to just disappear.
"No problem, little.." Yamada peered at the young male's expression. It looked guilty. But more so he looked guilty just for simply existing.
"Midoriya, just call me that." Izuku didn't even hesitate, his mind running on autopilot ad the sun peaked through the horizon.
"Well, let's find your way home!" Yamada beemed, and the tension slipped away. Almost letting Izuku trust him. And for once through their whole conversation, Izuku looked Yamada directly in the eyes.
The sun engulfed Izuku, making him look angelic in the sunlight. And Yamada sat in awe for a second. Of course he never let him emotions peek through.
Izuku quickly adverted his attention to Yamada's feet. Unintentionally looking him up and down. It was then that Izuku relaized who this was.
"Present Mic." Izuku unconsciously whispered. And Mic was surprised he didn't notice that sooner.
"Let's take out leave then, right?"
"..Yeah."

So like, how is everyone?
