I woke to screaming the next night. It was louder than before. I grinned a little. Kahmunrah was finally getting what was coming to him. I waited for someone to release me. It was a long while before I heard someone. Once I was out, I saw Teddy again with another man. I felt like a fish out of water. How long would it take before I could feel at home here? The man introduced himself as Larry, a new night guard. I was told Cecle had retired and would not be back. The screams became louder and more desperate. I left before I said anything that would make my mother ashamed of me.
I didn't do much that night. I mostly sat in the Ocean Life exhibit. I began my walk back, not knowing the time but feeling slightly exhausted. Strange. I hadn't felt like this the night before. Perhaps I just hadn't noticed. When I turned the corner, the huge Anubis statues were in the doorway. Screams were coming from the inside, but not Kahmunrah's.
"-What's going on? What are you doing? Let me through,-" I yelled as loudly as possible in Egyptian. The statues turned to look at me and I took the chance to run inside. I saw Larry and a small boy with him. The Anubis statues looked ready to strike. They must think Larry will harm Kahmunrah. I ran in front of them and began yelling. "-Stop! They won't harm him! I was his parents' and brother's servant! You can trust me!-" One knocked me to the side with his spear. I bounced on the floor and slid. I held my sides in pain, unable to scream since the wind had been knocked out of me. I laid there, trying to regain my breath. I saw Larry begin to unlock the sarcophagus. I tried to tell him to stop, but couldn't. He released the lid. Kahmunrah threw it across the room and sat up.
"Hi, hey, how you doing? See could you tell your friends to stop? The girl tried but it didn't work. Could you do it like NOW???" Larry jumped back to protect the boy just as the Anubis statues were about to strike. Kahmunrah turned and yelled a muffled command to stop at the statues. They kneeled and went back to their positions. I slowly got up, as did Kahmunrah. Oh no. He was free. He grunted and groaned then began to unwrap himself. I only saw the back of his head. I heard a cough and saw dust fly.
"You won't believe how stuffy it is in there." I knew that voice, but it was not the voice of Kahmunrah. It was not the voice of a murderer.
"Ahkmenrah," I whispered. He turned and smiled.
"Anelra, it's so good to see you." I bowed at his feet.
"Forgive me. I never gave thought to reading your name on the sarcophagus. How stupid of me. I assumed Teddy was referring to Kahmunrah when he said you were evil and thought best to stay away. Please forgive me."
"Anelra, you need not beg for forgiveness. You were doing what you thought best. Besides, I can't stay mad at an old friend." He lifted me up and hugged me. I hugged back. "I've missed you, Anelra. Over 50 years and I have always thought of you." I blushed slightly and looked at Larry who was still standing in front of the boy. I cleared my throat.
"Um, sire." I pointed at them and he introduced himself. Larry explained who he was and the boy, his son, Nick, and where they came from.
"Larry, Nick, Guardians of Brooklyn, thank you for releasing me. Now, bestow my tablet upon me so I may regain control of my kingdom."
"Oh, um, see I would love to bestow it upon you, but I don't actually have it. Cecle has it." I looked at the wall and saw the tablet was missing. Oh no. That was why I was so tired. Akmenrah told the Anubis statues to throw a rock at the gate that locked us in and we all ran out. We went outside, back inside, outside again, back and forth. Finally, we found Cecle. He was on a carriage, driving right toward us. I froze in fear.
"Anelra! Move!" I felt someone grab my waist and pull me out of the way. Their weight was on top of me as they shielded me from the carriage with their body. I looked to see who it was, Ahkmenrah.
"Ahkmenrah! Are you out of your mind???? You could have been killed!!" Ahkmenrah chuckled and looked at me.
"We're mummies, Anelra. We shouldn't fear death." I realized how silly it was to worry about death, but I was still upset he had risked it. I was almost positive that if something happened to his body, tablet or no tablet, he wouldn't come back. We got on a giant skeleton that Larry called Rexy and ran after Cecle. Larry came to the side of Cecle and began saying something to him that I couldn't hear over the stomping of hooves, the rattling of the carriage, and Rexy's giant steps. Suddenly, the carriage stopped, throwing Cecle and the tablet. Larry picked up the tablet and a group of large men that spoke funny, I think Larry had called them Huns, grabbed Cecle and carried him away. Nick and Larry were discussing how they were going to get everyone back inside after he was gone. Larry handed the tablet to Akmenrah, who started saying commands in Egyptian. We watched everyone obey and return. We all had to keep track of them, making sure everyone was inside. I was in charge of the African exhibit. Once I was sure everyone was in, I went to Ahkmenrah's side. I had to make sure he was ok.
"Anelra, how are you? Are you harmed?" He rushed to me and scanned every inch of me. Oh, please don't notice what I was buried in wasn't exactly servant attire, I thought. He didn't seem to care or notice. Thank the Gods.
"I'm alright. Are you ok?" He nodded.
"We have a lot to catch up on when we have time," he said as he hugged me once more. Eventually, we all went back to our exhibits. I helped Ahkmenrah into his bandages while he was in the sarcophagus, his was much bigger than mine. Nick helped me get mine done. Mine was a little harder. Larry walked in just as we finished and put the lid over me. I felt the life leave me once again. It was much easier now. It felt like falling asleep.
(That was my flip through of the first movie. Onto the next stuff. If you would like me to follow the next movie a bit better later either in the story or a sequel, just tell me. I will consider it if it is asked a lot. I can't promise though.)
