Peace. Tranquillity. Everything seemed at ease, moving at a speed that was easy to handle. It felt like a time where things were in control, power to control their own lives still in their hands.

Quin lounged sideways on the grey, upholstered sofa, clad in a loose T-shirt and pyjama bottoms. A sea of comfortable plush pillows surrounded him. The night was warm, cooled pleasantly by the breeze from the open sliding door. A book lay open and face down on his chest whilst he had his hands behind his head, it was too dark to see anything anyways.

The only light other than the stars was the blue screen which Karli sat restlessly behind. Rubbing her tired eyes, she groaned and sank deeper into the office chair, spinning around and gazing at the dark, beautifully decorated, homely room of the penthouse.

"Hey, come on. Take it easy on yourself," he chided, swinging his legs over the side of the sofa and lazily standing up. Yawning, he stretched and walked towards her, his bare feet padding on the polished wooden floorboards.

"Yeah I know, I know," she sighed, stopping and facing the screen once more. She felt his warm touch as he gently put his hands on her shoulders. "But we've just been doing so much lately, it doesn't feel right just laying about and doing nothing. Everyone else seems so...chilled out."

Quin absently began running a hand through her fiery curls, a small smile on his face. "It's like a vacation Red. You need to relax. Fuck working, come here and spend some time with me."

She sighed again, leaning into his touch.

"I have so much to do though. So much planning..."

"Please? For meeeee?" he asked, spinning Karli around in her chair to make her face him. Quin put on a goofy grin, and then gave her puppy dog eyes.

A smirk crept onto her freckled face and rolling her eyes, she nodded.

Taking her hands, he pulled her up and almost skipped towards the balcony, a laughing Karli in tow. Her skin felt warm and soft against his, fingers interlacing like they were meant to fit together.

The stone slabs of the balcony were cool under their feet. He settled down on the patio couch and she followed suit, wrapping her arms around him. Quin leaned his head against hers, a hand gently pressing her closer. He breathed in her familiar scent, a content smile on his face.

For a few minutes they simply sat there together locked in each other's embrace. The soft breeze, beautiful nightscape and sense of tranquillity made everything seem so perfect.

Almost immediately Karli could feel herself relax, the tension trickling out of her body as she simply lay there against her boyfriend. It had only been a few days, but already she felt like they had been together for so long. In her mind, at least, she had loved him for as long as she could remember.

"You know what we need?" Quin asked, his soft voice breaking the silence. "Some hot cocoa. That's what we need."

She shifted slightly and kissed him, their lips meeting gently but still it felt heavenly. His hand reached forward and cupped her face, his thumb slowly caressing her skin. The smell of his hair, the taste of his mouth, the feeling of his skin had simply embedded itself inside her, so much that it felt like a necessity to have him beside her.
