Understudy + Jade's Plans

We were sat in Sikowitz's class. I sat next to Jade while bouncing my knee while playing with my fidget cube.

"Let's... discuss... acting..." Sikowitz said before pausing.

"What about acting?" Andre asked.

"Oh, yes. Any questions?" Sikowitz asked.

"One time, my brother painted part of his body purple," Cat said. We turned to look at the redhead.

"Well, why did your brother paint part of his body purple?" Robbie asked.

"He had a job interview. He didn't get it," Cat said. The bell rang for lunch. We all grabbed our bags.

"Wait, wait, wait. Would anyone be interested in seeing the cast list for our little play called Steamboat Suzy?" Sikowitz asked. We all agreed.

"I got the lead, right? And Mads is my understudy?" Jade asked.

"Pardon?" Sikowitz asked.

"I'm playing Suzy, right?" Jade asked. Sikowitz dropped the cast list and ran out. Jade picked up the sheet of paper.

"Did you get the lead?" Cat asked. Jade screwed up the paper and kicked the chair that was on the stage.

"I don't think she got it," Andre said.

"So who's playing Suzy?" Robbie asked. Tori picked up the paper and I saw who got the lead.

"Me," Tori said.

"Yeah, her. That. She got the lead," Jade said aggressively.

"Well, what part did you get?" I asked Jade.

"I got cheated and humiliated," Jade yelled.

"You get used to it," Sinjin said. Robbie nodded.

"All right, now chill down. Let's see. It says right here, "Jade West, understudy for the role of Suzy," Andre readout.

"Oh, yee-hoo. Like it's my dream to be Tori's understudy," Jade said. I looked at the paper to see my name, not on it.

"What's an understudy?" Tori asked. I sighed.

"Oh, man," Jade threw the bottle of water in her hand at one of the masks on the wall.

"Um, an understudy is like a backup actor. So if you get sick or something, your understudy takes over for your part in the play," Andre said.

"Yeah, yeah, if you get sick or go missing. Or get hit by a bus," Jade yelled walking out. Tori looked at me. I walked out after her.

"Jade," I said walking over to her. She looked at me. "I love you," I whispered loud enough for just her to hear me. She wrapped her arms around me.

"I love you too Mads," She whispered back pecking my lips.

"Can we go get food and sit in the library?" I asked.
