Confused and bewildered, Violet shook her head, she presumed that she must have been imagining the man who had supposedly come to help her. The man stood anxiously at the door, he scratched nervously at his scar covered face and itched at his empty eye socket; he tapped his foot and waved Violet over to the door desperately.
"You coming or do you want to stay locked up?" He asked sarcastically.
Violet climbed to her feet and left her cell, a small group of escaped prisoners gathered in the hallway waiting for instructions from their rescuers.
The blonde looked at the crowd of weary looking people who stood staggered in front of her. When she spotted he familiar face of the twins some faint happiness restored itself in her body. Sophie immediately ran to the blonde, grabbing her by the shoulders in distress.
"Violet, have you seen the others!? Have you seen Brody?" She yelled disturbing the quiet of the hallway.
Violet flinched from the slightest touch and her mind went blank of all information and was filled with images of the three people who had died in the fighting pit.
"No...no I haven't seen anybody." She eventually said, driving the horrible images from her head.
Sophie sighed and looked down, defeated. It was clear to Violet that the other prisoners had not experienced the same things as her; they all looked exhausted and distressed, some were even injured but none shared Violet's trauma.
"If you two are done we need to get moving, you know places to be-people to murder." The one eyed man joked.
Swiftly they unlocked the remaining cell doors in the corridor and slowly crept, following their saviours instructions and directions. Eventually, they found a large expansive room: a garage, on the far side sat a pair of large trucks, the perfect get away vehicles. Blocking their easy escape a group of about fifteen armed bandits sitting around a fire.
The strangers quickly gathered together, there were only about five of them so they had to be smart about their plan of attack.
"Just cover me, I have an idea." The scar covered one said.
"What's the plan H? I don't want to get killed doing another one of your dumb plans." One of the people questioned with frustration.
H ignored the question and walked casually from the hiding spot and into the open. He made a series of loud noises, drawing the bandits attention. Immediately the bandits grabbed their weapons and pointed them at the man who stood casually in the open, seeming unarmed and alone.
"Who the fuck are you? How did you get in here?" One of them asked aggressively.
H looked around and took a few steps forward, "Hey guys come on, it's me! The new guy, I was literally here a couple of hours ago how did you forget me!" He lied convincingly, his brutish appearance helping to sell the lie.
"New guy? Do we have a new guy?" The bandits looked to each other for an answer but it was too late for them. As they were distracted, H pulled a gun from his back pocket and fired a bust of rounds. The other four suddenly sprung from their hiding spot, unloading bullets on the unaware killers.
When the shooting has stopped everybody quickly ran to the trucks, desperate to escape the compound and it's hellish contents."We will drive, all you need to do is stay in the back until we get to Oasis." H explained patting the rear door of the truck.
The blonde squinted suspiciously, "How do we know your not going to take us some place else or try to kill us?"
H chuckled heartily as he fiddled with the back door to the vehicle, "Believe me, if I wanted to kill some people I would not start with you I've-" The door suddenly flung open and H was met with a surprise attack to the face, a woman leaped from the back of the truck and attempted to attack him.
The man stepped back and allowed the woman to assume a defensive posture, she appeared both frightened and angry; ready to kill anyone who came close. As soon as Violet saw her she recognised her friends familiar auburn hair and stern face.
"Brody! Oh my god!" Sophie sprinted from the crowd of escaped prisoner and practically tackled Brody into a hug.
"Sophie? Sophie!" Brody mumbled her voice hoarse from lack of water in the desert heat.
"Sorry to intrude on this little moment you guys are having but we're kinda leaving so if you want to come with you free to." H interrupted.
"By the way, you throw a mean punch." He commented as he walked past them and entered the trucks cab.The escapees split themselves between the two empty and old delivery trucks, clambering into the back. They left the compound immediately and began their long journey to Oasis.
As they traveled Brody explained that she had been left in the back of the truck alone as punishment for attempting to escape. According to things she had eavesdropped more people had be captured recently, some of which matched the descriptions of the other members of their group. According to Brody's information there were other places filled with bandits all looking for helpless wanders to enslave.
During the long drive Violet sat silently in the corner, the adrenaline rush from the escape had subsided and the cold guilt filled her again. If things were too quiet she could hear the faint scream of the woman she was forced to murder. Every time she touched her neck the bruised tissue made her shiver, the eyes of the man she strangled burned themselves into her mind. The darkness of the van's interior made her feel vulnerable, even the short stay in the cold, dark cell had left its mark on her.
When the truck pulled to a stop everybody waited eagerly by the door, even Violet seemed happy. When the door opened the sudden sunlight was a blinding surprise; a group of people helped them out and organised them into groups, they took the sick and injured first. Violet, Brody and the twins waited, anxious to see who had made it to safety. Eventually a woman approached them, specifically Violet, "Do you happen to know a Clementine or Louis?" she asked.
Violet nodded, keen to see her friend alive and safe in person. "Please, can I see her?" The blonde asked desperately. The woman smiled," Please, she's been desperate to see you since she got here."
Following the woman Violet was lead into a large, hospital like building and into one of the rooms. Clementine lay with one leg permanently raised and wrapped in a bandage. Clementine seemed bored until she spotted Violet who was running to her side.
"Oh my god! Clementine are you alright? What happened? I'm so sorry." Violet said stumbling over her own words.
Clementine grinned when she saw Violet was alive, the short period of time which they had been separated almost felt like a lifetime.
"Please, never leave me again." Violet said grabbing Clementine, pulling her into a tight hug.
"I promise, I'll never leave you again!" Clementine whispered, planting a soft kiss on the blondes pale cheek.
