The air was warm with the early morning sun and light with a gentle breeze. Peaking slowly through the broken window of Violet's room.

The room was relatively small compared to most the others in the boarding school because it was only fit for two people whereas the others were built to fix a maximum of four.

Suddenly jolting awake from a nightmare with an exasperated gasp Violet sat up in her bed and held her hand to her furiously beating heart.

"Damn it!"

Violet shook her head with a dismissive groan, bad dreams had plagued her for several years and they only seemed to get worse.

"What was it this time? Centipedes in your cereal?"

Violet took a moment to calm herself before she decided to pay attention to her roommates comment.

"It's nothing Minnie, just bad dreams."

Minerva was already prepared for her day, standing lazily against a wall. She somehow had a way of always being ready and awake before anyone else. This was something of a pet peeve of Violet's, she hated being watched, especially when she couldn't avoid it.

"Ever dream about anything good? Or dream about anyone... a special person perhaps?" She teased

Minerva smiled smugly and made her way over to the window which divided the room with a beam of light.

"Good weather for your little 'supply run' today, who knows maybe you'll find something extra special."

Violet could have made some snarky reply to her sarcastic comment but she didn't have the energy.

Ignoring the redhead she climbed out of her bed, quickly sliding her denim jacket over her shirt and slipping her worn leather boots on. She couldn't remember the last time she had nice clothes never mind clothes that weren't sewn together and bloodstained.

Finally she grabbed her trusty meat cleaver which she kept hidden under her bed for safe keeping.
The handle was still surprisingly intact, a small initial 'V' in the handle and a few nicks was about as much damage as it had seen in the several years.
The blade was as sharp and clean as she could make it, to her surprise walker blood is significantly harder to clean than normal blood.

"I'll see you later Minnie."

Violet left her room and left the cold tension behind, instead making her way outside of the old school dorm building and into the main courtyard.

The yard was near empty which was normal as it had barely gone morning. She could only see Brody standing nervously at the top of tower next to the gate, a bow firmly held in her hands.

Grabbing firmly onto the ancient brick wall Violet climbed up onto her spot on the wall.

"Hey Brody, how you holding up?"

The auburn haired girl lazily dragged her eye to meet where Violet was sitting.

"I don't think I've ever been so tired, so tired and so bored!"

Her voice was rough and dry, Violet knew the feeling the night watch is hard work for anyone.

"Don't remind me, I'm up there tomorrow." She joked.

Brody giggled slightly which made Violet happy, she may not have shown it but it was the little things that made her happy, helping a friend or spending some time in the bell tower brought her more joy than it should.

The morning progressed suddenly as it did most days. Ericsson's Boarding School for Troubled Youth may have been home to a range of people but somehow they always managed to stick to a rough schedule.
