Chapter 27 (Dead Apple)

Akutagawa lifted the grate off the ground, peering through.

He pulled himself out as we all followed.

I barely fit in with my large wings as I cursed whoever released this stupid fog.

The air was still clouded in fogs, making it difficult to see.

I listened carefully for any sign of movement.

I heard a soft clang of metal as I whipped my head to the side and stared into the fog.

Akutagawa smirked, "No wonder they can sense my presence."

We all tensed as we saw Rashoumon through the thick fog, standing on top of a high metal frame, from afar.

"I'll help." Kyouka-chan offered as Akutagawa shook his head.

"No." He said as he wandered into the fog.

"I've wandered many a night and slain many an enemy to prove my might." He said, walking deeper into the fog.

"But I hadn't thought such an enemy, worthy of fighting and being defeated, would be so near." Akutagawa said.

"Don't act on your own." Atsushi-kun muttered as I sighed.

"We each have something we need to be doing." Kyouka-chan said as I already sensed the other two incomers.

Demon Snow and Atsushi-kun's Beast lurked in the shadows.

"Looks like my doppelgänger isn't here yet." I said as I looked at the two abilities.

"You guys can fight them off right?" I asked as Kyouka-chan nodded in determination.

"I'll make sure the douche bag doesn't die." I said as Kyouka-chan smiled at my insult before the mask appeared back on her face.

"You guys don't die too!" I yelled as I ran into the fog, after Akutagawa before he disappeared from view.

Akutagawa scowled as he heard me running over to him.

"What are you doing here?" He asked as I gave him blank stare.

"I won't interfere with your worthy fight but if you die, I'll defeat Rashoumon for you." I said as Akutagawa rolled his eyes.

Silence surrounded us as did awkwardness.

No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't help but think about the time when Akutagawa had kissed me, twice.

I shook my head. Don't think about it, y/n! I scolded myself.

"What are you thinking about?" Akutagawa asked softly, staring at me, making my face flush red.

"Nothing." I answered as I refused to look at Akutagawa.

"Oh?" He asked as he suddenly stopped.

I was caught off guard as Akutagawa grabbed my wrist and pulled me closer to him, other hand wrapping around my waist.

I blinked in shock, unable to move as Akutagawa smirked.

I mind flashed back to out kiss again as I flushed at our close proximity.

"I wonder what you're thinking about now." Akutagawa said, smiling as I gasped.

I pulled out of Akutagawa's grasp and raised my wings to cover my flustered face.

I hoped he hadn't felt how my heartbeat had sky rocketed.

"Are you teasing me?" I asked as I heard Akutagawa chuckled.
