"So, you totally went AWOL on me this weekend, I texted you like four times," Paige grumbled, setting her bag down next to his as she made her way into art class, "what happened?"Milo wasn't expecting an interrogation first period on a Tuesday, yet that was seemingly what he was in for, "Yeah, sorry. Nothing, really. Just wasn't on my phone too much."
Paige scoffed, "That's such a shit excuse. Are you still pissed at me...because of...you know, what I said?" Milo's skin pricked and he narrowed his eyes before motioning for her to lower her voice, "sorry, cause I thought we'd moved past that."
"We have, it's not that," Milo shrugged, glancing down at his sketchbook, "I just wasn't on my phone."
Paige rolled her eyes, "Fine, okay. Whatever, I need to bitch about that fucking biology excursion yesterday."
"Oh yeah, how was it?"
"Terrible, my group sucked ass," Paige scoffed, "I was considering stabbing myself with one of those...tweezer things."
"Mood," Milo chuckled, "I don't know why the science department thought that was a good idea, I'm pretty sure it just put people off doing biology in college."
Paige laughed, "God, I know."
"What did you and Sam get up to on the weekend?"
"Not much, we went on a few runs together and did some training on Saturday and then breakfast on Sunday."
Milo smiled, "Goals."
"We're iconic," Paige laughed, "what about you?"
"Not much," Milo lied through his teeth. Well, he wasn't really lying. Aside from Sunday evening with Jamie, his weekend was very uneventful. He spent most of the time in his room trying to wrap his head around what he did on Friday, only to do it again on Sunday night. He furrowed his eyebrows and avoided her gaze by focusing on his terribly drawn illustration of a sunset.
Paige nodded, "You're acting weird today, jittery. What's going on?"
Milo waved her off, "Coffee, Paigey-Waigey...it's always coffee." He could feel her eyes on him but refused to return her gaze. He continued to add details to his sunset, praying Paige would let whatever she was thinking go and they could switch conversations. Everything had him on edge recently, especially school. Surrounded by his friends and...Jamie, sometimes together in the same room was incredibly stressful and he was doing his best to act casual about it...but he wondered how well he was really doing at it. Especially with Paige, that girl knew him so well it scared him a little.
What scared him even more is that she knew Milo's own feelings before he did, she knew something was going on with Jamie before Milo even built the courage to admit it to himself.
Paige knew Milo better than he knew himself and for the first time, that scared the shit out of him. It wouldn't be long until she figured out something was going on, even if she didn't know about Jamie specifically, he was acting different, though he tried his best not to.
God, who was he kidding? She already knew something was up.
Paige Kelly.
"Alright," she shrugged, and Milo let out a breath he didn't realise he was holding in, "now, onto a more serious matter."
Shit.
"Your birthday."
Oh, thank fuck.
"What about it?" He asked, turning to her.
"My little baby is finally turning seventeen, it has to be big...epic."
