"What's going on with you and Chelsea?" Jason Bentley, the cocky asshole in Milo's biology asked him, peering over the seat to look at him and Sam.

Milo craned his neck to look at him, "Nothing, why?"

Sam and Milo were sitting together on the thirty-minute bus ride to Central Morley College whilst Jamie was across the aisle, sitting with some unsociable kid who wanted no involvement in the conversation taking place. Milo felt that. He didn't particularly want any part of it, either.

"Please," Jason scoffed, "I saw you two at her party. You looked like way more than just biology buddies."

Milo rolled his eyes at Jason. He was the type of guy to assume something was going on if you even looked at a girl for too long. Dick.

"What's going on?" Sam hissed at Milo, obviously angry that he hadn't mentioned anything, "I couldn't make it that night."

Jason chuckled, "You should've seen them, dancing in the middle of the room for all to see."

"Why did I not know about this?" Sam folded his arms.

Milo raised his hands in defence, "Because there's nothing to know, we were both wasted that night, it didn't mean anything."

Jason flopped back in his seat, "Whatever you say."

Milo couldn't be bothered to keep arguing about it, he just turned to Sam with a smile. "If something happened with Chelsea, I would've told you."

He probably wouldn't have told anyone, aside from Paige, he wasn't the kind of guy to go spreading that kind of shit around the school. That wasn't his style.

"It's annoying that they decided to do the field trip class by class, if they put everyone together then the whole group would be here," Sam rolled his eyes, "Paige was telling me that she got stuck in a group with Hayden, you know, the dick that doesn't stop flirting with her."

"I'm surprised she hadn't dropkicked him yet."

Sam laughed, "I think by the end of the excursion she will have."

"No doubt about it."

Sam sighed dramatically, "I'm jealous that you two got put into a group together."

Milo couldn't decide if he wanted to trade places with Sam or not. On one hand, being in the same group with Jamie was super awkward and uncomfortable, though they'd decided to remain friends. It was still weird and they were nowhere near back to where they used to be. On the other hand, Sam had a shit group. Well, in Milo's opinion at least – he had Grace Butler, who had some dumb rivalry with Catherine Davis about some boy they both dated and Reece Carter was the biggest 'pick me' boy to enter Ludgate Senior High School. In hindsight, Milo did have the better group, it just didn't feel like it at the moment.

At least he had Josie and Freya. Both girls were nice and seemed like pretty good company, hopefully getting to know them better would distract Milo from Jamie.

When the class got off the bus, they were met with a fresh gust of wind and Milo wondered what happened to the warmth they had yesterday. Milo was happy he brought a lot of layers.

God, he hated Winter.

Their guide led them through the school, which was somewhat nicer than Ludgate's local college. Milo wondered how that place was still up and running. They all arrived at the biology rooms sooner than Milo would've liked and were forced to separate into groups for the first experiment. Milo blinked at the dead frog body on the table before looking around to see how many people had thrown up. None? Fabulous. Milo turned away and looked towards the tour guide, who was explaining what they were supposed to do, and Milo couldn't help the way his stomach knotted at the thought of picking the animal apart. His face radiated disgust and he couldn't hide it from his group, just the explanation alone left a sour taste in his mouth.
