“Be outside in ten minutes,” I told Y/N as I climbed down the stairs. She was having breakfast with Markl. Calcifer was looking at the two of them quietly. Y/N was laughing as I came down. She and Markl seemed to be talking about something funny. When I told her to be outside in ten minutes she stiffened a little but then nodded. “Yes, I’ll be there. I’m almost done,” she said as she continued with her breakfast, now trying to eat rapidly. I left after that.

Ten minutes later Y/N was outside. She was punctual. Well, that was good, right? I was still unsure if I should be teaching her magic or not. That was one of the many reasons I was teaching her basic spells. I didn’t want to teach her dangerous spells. Firstly, because I didn’t know what her motive was- I had a very good idea what it was and I was hoping it wouldn’t be what I was thinking but who knew. And I knew I would have to ask her sooner or later, but with the situation going on, I knew it would be sooner than later. She was brilliant at magic. And if she kept going on like this, she’d learn more dangerous spells by no time.

I had to ask her why she was so keen on learning magic. She had even agreed to be patient and was doing everything I was telling her to. And it was called for to ask her everything. She hadn’t talked to me much and neither had I tried to talk to her much and I knew she wouldn’t feel comfortable to suddenly blurt out everything to me. For that, I had to be kind to her and gain her trust. After that, I could get her to open up to me, because I couldn’t go on teaching her dangerous spells without getting to know why she wanted me to teach her all of a sudden. And to know and do all of this, I had to stay closer to her and make her feel comfortable.

I wasn’t sure if I liked the idea of getting closer to Y/N or not. She was a stranger but more so, she was his granddaughter and I didn’t know if it would be fair to befriend her after what I did. My thoughts were interrupted when Y/N cleared her throat and stood a little behind me. Taking a deep breath, I turned towards her. I smiled at her and moved closer to her. “Did you sleep well?” I asked her. She nodded. “Are you comfortable here? I know it’s not much and it isn’t even a proper house but I hope you feel comfortable here.” “Actually….it’s perfect. I mean yes it isn’t a proper house but it’s very cozy. You don’t have to say those things. I feel comfortable here, Howl. Markl and Calcifer take care of me all the time,” she said. I nodded. “It’s master Howl to you,” I told her smiling a little. She looked taken aback but eventually recovered. She didn’t say anything just stood there looking awkward. “Well, I’m really glad that you’re comfortable here. And I’m certainly glad that Calcifer and Markl are helping you adjust here.” She smiled a little and nodded. “Now, let’s get to your lesson.” She nodded.

“The spell you learnt yesterday was a very easy one and you already knew it to some extent, but today’s spell will be a little complicated than that. It was a simple defense spell so it was easy for you. Now, shall we get started?” She nodded. I proceeded to explain everything to her. She listened to me intently and asked me a few questions. I answered those for her and did my best to explain everything to her. I then showed her the stance and how to exactly perform the spell. I showed her how to do it practically. She obliged and did as I told her. Just like yesterday, she was good today as well.

I watched her as she practiced her stance and the spell. I gave her some more tips and showed her more ways to practice better. She picked quickly. Just like that, she kept practicing hard until noon. “You can take a rest for a while. Go eat something and then you can come back later, Y/N,” I told her going towards her. She stopped and nodded. “I’ll come back an hour later,” she told me and I smiled. She turned towards the castle and sprinted in the direction of the entrance, as I saw her going inside. I kept thinking about her. For the first time since she had come here, I had studied her features closely while she had been practicing. She resembled her grandfather a lot. And she was a lot like him too. She had the same soft way of talking and smiling at everything.
