Ra walks alongside Meredith, arms folded under the cloak draped over his shoulders.
They were headed to the ravine, that separated Merri and Morbus, and he didn't know how to feel about it.
He didn't know whether to stay or to run. If he even could run, Techno was a royal guard, and definitely knew how to chase after a kid and grab him before he could even realize that he did. Meredith was a mage? He thinks, judging by the staff she carried around with her everywhere, her hand never left it. As for Cali, he wasn't too sure, but usually, when it came down to hybrids, especially older ones, they were agile and fast. At this point, what could he do to get him out of this situation? It was nonsense.
Being the supposed heir to the enemy kingdom sent him through a loop, it made him want to throw up, the thought of going against everything he has ever known was terrifying. They couldn't even give him a clear answer as to why he was the heir, why he was supposed to become the king, and what exactly happened at the institution. He didn't remember the past two days, whenever that would happen, he would go to the library and grab his journal to help him remember, but he couldn't do that, he couldn't run and figure out his own memories.
Tears welled up in his eyes, not allowing them to roll down his cheeks. No matter how sad or frustrated he was feeling, he couldn't be vulnerable with total strangers by his side. They told him their names, Meredith, Techno, and Cali...but he refused to tell them his given name, he planned to escape somehow so why give them a name?
If only he had been awake earlier, if only he had woken up during the night when they were all asleep, he could have run for his life.
Sick to his stomach as it growled, needing food.
"You hungry boy?" Techno addressed him, and Ra looked up at him, pressing his lips together, stopping himself from replying with a comeback. "There should be a town along this road in the next mile or so, we can grab something to eat there. Cali, you have the coins, right?" Cali nods, pulling out a pouch from their pocket, that held the currency used in Morbus. "Yep!"
"Hold on for a bit till then, if you start to feel faint, let Techno know so he can carry you the rest of the way," Meredith tells him, resting her hand on his shoulder. Ra fought off the urge to shrug her off of him, he felt uncomfortable in this atmosphere. These were total strangers to him- at least back then, at the institution, everyone was faintly familiar. His routine was broken.
He glanced up at the sun, muttering under his breath, "Indoor activities..." That's what he would be doing right now if it weren't for all of this. He felt so crossed about this. On one hand, he won't have to worry about the hybrids harming themselves to stop the supervisors from pulling them aside, to be sent off to war as child soldiers. On the other- he now has a worse fate.
Designated to lead a kingdom that was taught to him his whole life as the enemy. He felt bile rise in his throat, a flickering of memory; bloody hands, and a broken tree branch. Ra shakes his head, willing the memory away, swallowing the bile ceasing it from protruding out of his mouth. Rubbing his wrists together anxiously, he looks to the left of him, peering into the woods seeing the small outlines of light dancing over rose bushes.
"...Roses grow out here?" He questions softly, gaining the attention of Cali who springs up, "Those aren't roses! They are pixie houses."
"Pixie..?"
"Here, let's take a small detour, I will show you! Pixies are harmless as long as you do no harm to them." His tail flicked across the back of his calf, as if telling him going over there was probably not the best of ideas. Cali grabs his wrist, pulling him along with them to the pixie houses. Not caring about what Ra wanted at that moment. Meredith grins when she spots Ra look over his shoulder, lips pursed as he is dragged away from them. He looked like a kid then, being dragged off by a parent to do a chore they didn't want to do.
