Phil is midway through his lesson, history, and Ra is finding it difficult to focus on his words and what he did on the chalkboard. His strikingly large wingspan distracted him, watching the feathers flutter to readjust with his exaggerated movements. Phil was a great teacher, he was very patient with Ra whenever he would ask the young prince a question; he didn't force him to answer it. It was vastly different compared to how he had been taught his whole life.
They were learning about how Merri was created, the second kingdom to come to be in this world. Named after the first king, Merri.
'Merri' derives from 'Happiness'. The emotion this kingdom was based on and should always reflect off of. The people of Merri were refugees from a land that is now buried undersea, deep in the ocean filled with horrifying creatures. The old land is now home to them, while the refugees had to find a new home for themselves.
A talented and remarkable wizard led the march, erecting a large plot of land just big enough for 100 people to live off of. As time went on, they expanded the land into what it is in present times. This Wizard is known in history as the First King of Merri. To honor the name, many King and Queens of Merri have gifted themselves the name once crowned.
The current King Merri has an original name from birth, but once crowned he took upon the royal name, 'Merri', to show his dedication to the kingdom. It made Ra reflect back to what King Merri of present told him about 'choosing a new name' before his coronation was to happen in two weeks' time.
'King Merri and Queen Merri...I haven't met Queen Merri yet, I wonder what she is like.' He thinks to himself as Phil turns around to face him, new words written on the board. "Any questions?" Ra blinks, pulled out of his thoughts. He didn't have any questions about the history of this kingdom like he should have, having paid more attention to his past questions about the surrounding world.
"...Are hybrids...no never mind." He shakes his head. Phil frowns, "No, go on ahead. What is your question? I'm not only just your history tutor. I am a scholar and know much about various subjects. Feel free to ask." Ra stares down at his hands, the contrasting colors reflecting his need to know more.
"Was there ever a hybrid who became a ruler?" Phil nods, "Not in Merri, but in other kingdoms, there have been. In the past, hybrids were always servants to the crown in some way. It didn't matter if it was by birthright, or by force." Phil begins to explain, beginning to draw the different kingdoms and their continents onto the board. 'Three northern kingdoms, and two below.' Ra comes to the conclusion.
"Here we have Azal, The North Western Kingdom." Phil points to the northwest, "Azal is known as the Kingdom of Magma, because of many inactive volcanoes that are scattered across the continent. Fifty years ago, they had a Queen for a ruler, and she was a Salamander Hybrid." He tells before pointing to another continent. "Betula, closest to the top of the world. Known for its cold and frigid weather. With hard dexterity, comes strong warriors in war. Ruled over by a Human King." To the North East, was the last Northern Kingdom. "Then we have, Glamour. Home of the Fairies." His eyes widen, "Fairies? But aren't they-"
"Dangerous? Yes very much so. But, we are at peace with them as long as we provide them substance for their people." Phil chuckles, watching Ra's eyes go wide in shock.
"...They eat-"
"Human flesh. You are correct. When a human dies in our kingdom, and the family doesn't want to keep the body to bury. It gets distributed across the ocean and to Glamour. Other kingdoms hold the same pact as us. Besides Morbus."
