I looked over the letter again. I glanced up my Aunt who stared at me with confusion. I handed her the acceptance letter and waited for her to finished reading it over. After she finished she looked back up to me, but she didn't seem surprised at all.
"I think we need to talk about something, Rae," She simply said.
She went over to the closet that sat in the corner of the room. She pulled out an old white chest covered in beautiful golden dragon reaching from one side to the other. She flipped open the tabs and lifted the lid, inside pictures and books and other miscellaneous items laid about. My Aunt picked up an old picture I handed it to me. I stared down at the picture and looked at the beautiful people who smiled back up at me. It was a mother and a father holding a baby. The mother had silver hair and eyes just like I did and she was so beautiful. The father had black hair and piercing blue eyes. he was tall and he looked kind. I looked at the baby and she had silver eyes as well. I realized then what I was looking at. It was a picture of my parents and me as a baby. I had never seen a picture of them before, but I immediately recognized them.
"It's my parents, but why are you showing me this now?" I asked looking up at my Aunt once again. She didn't respond, but instead she continued to lift a heavy book out of the chest. She opened it and began to read
"Everything that exists, that has ever existed begins with a story. Thousands of years ago there lived a dragon with scales made of pure silver. His name was Korin, the dragon of life and creation. He lived alone in a void of space called the Grimous. The Grimous represented nothing, a void less space. One day Korin thought that is was too much to live alone and that he wanted to use his artistic skills to paint his emotions. He created water so that it might carry away his tears. He created land so, that he may one day end up somewhere happy. Next, he created plants, trees, and flowers to show how he would be at peace with his creation. He created animals and bugs so that he wouldn't have to be alone ever again. He saw his beautiful painting and decided to go live in it. He shrunk in size and set foot on the soft grass that he designed. For the next couple of days he played about with the plants and animals of his painting finally feeling happy to be somewhere than in the void. He made a sun and a moon so that his beautiful things could have heat and sleep and grow. He saw that the night was also lonely so he made stars to play with the moon and so that he would forget the Grimous that layed beyond his world. One day, he realized that he still felt lonely. He had no one to talk to, no one to have conversation with. So he mustered up all of his power and skill to make one last thing: a human girl and boy. As they lay on the grass lifeless he wondered what he did wrong. They had all the organs to survive, so why did they lay there lifelessly? Then he had the best idea: he would give them a soul. Immediately they opened their eyes.
'He spent many years talking with them and being their friend. The two humans reproduce and soon many humans populated the earth. He watched them be born and he watched them die. He loved each and everything on that earth. As he was resting in a meadow field one summer day, little children came to play around him. A little girl gave him flowers and fell asleep on his silver scales. He smiled and was about to rest himself when a dark, sleek figure appeared before his eyes. Korin stood up and stared down at the figure looking up at him. He was dressed in a black robe and a hood was pulled up on his head. The robed human was made up entirely of Grimous and he spoke in a deathly voice.
'Well, well, well, Korin. It seems that you have made yourself something happy and beautiful. Were you tired of laying in my void-less space?' he inquired with a smirk plastered on his face. This made Korin growl.
'Who are you and what are you doing here? I did not create you,' Korin snapped at him.
'Of course you didn't create me, foolish brother. I was made from the thing you call the Grimous; they call me the Grim. I am the exact opposite of what you are. I am chaos, destruction, and everything else evil. Since you have created this stupid and pointless thing behind my back, I will have to punish you by destroying this planet,' He growled back.
His body became like Korin's body. He had scales as black as night and wings like the voidless space itself. His dragon tail grew spikes as sharp as a blade and his teeth were even sharper. A battle was waged between the two dragons that lasted for many years. Finally after they only had a sliver of strength left in each of them, they took the shard of their soul and both placed inside a child nearby. Korin resided in a young girl and Grim was no where to be found. The little girl's hair became like the silver scales of the dragon and so did her eyes. She was able to do special things which she was able to pass down to her children who in turn passed it down to their children. This started the race called 'The Gifted.' These childrens' jobs were to protect the world from the children of the Grim who is residing in a place not known to man."
