Rolling his head to the side, James opened his eyes as he slowly awoke.

The silence was near deafening as he strained his ears to hear Paige in her bedroom, only then did he notice the floral pattern of the bed sheets he was tangled in. Panic caused him to bolt out of the bed; the room he was in was large, light and very feminine. As he looked around hopeful for a picture of something to jog his memory he remembered last night and the fact that Paige was at his parent's.

He'd kissed Claudia during that game of never ... whatever it was and it had embarrassed her. He had flashes of memory fly past of the anger and hurt on her face as they took the taxi home, the way she'd patted his back as he'd thrown up and then wrapped him in towels in case he threw up again.

Twisting his shirt back into position on his chest, he headed to the door on weak knees. The hallway was as light as the bedroom, but gone were the creams and pinks as crisp whites, blues and greys came into play as he followed the hall into the living room. The room itself was double height and the window took most of the far wall, showering the room and the kitchen to the far right in light.

Claudia was sitting on the settee reading, her hair was wet and pulled up into a bun on the top of her head as she read, completely engrossed.

James just looked, took it all in.

She was so strikingly different to Sarah he wondered why he was so attracted to her. He'd thought he was in love with Sarah until the last year they were together.

Maybe it was because she was smart, she made him laugh and even challenged him when he made statements about science.

"Oh Rochester you are a fool." She sighed shaking her head as she took off her glasses and rubbed her eyes.

"What are you reading?" James asked suddenly, she froze as one hand dropped to look at him and silence engulfed. "Thank you for looking after me last night."

"It's what friends do, and I owed you one." She shrugged, still looking expectant in a blank way.

"I'm sorry about last night as well; including the whole sickness and throwing up bit. I'm sorry I embarrassed you." He sighed running his hand through his hair. "I shouldn't have kissed you."

"I don't mind you kissing me James; it's laughing that you kissed a squib that hurt." She said softly, looking down to the book in her hands.

"How would you feel if we'd been playing with people I'd grown up with and someone said I've never kissed a single dad and I started to laugh and snogged you... would you have been upset by that or are you too male to think about it?" she snapped, as her fingers tapped at the book. "it was very badly done James... and I'm reading Jane Eyre."

"I'm sorry." He said again feeling helpless, before stepping forwards. "Is she the writer?"

"She's the main character; a poor and plain governess who falls in love with the master of the house but leaves because she won't ..."

"Won't what?" he asked sitting down on the seat next to her and took the book to look at.

"She won't marry him because he lied to her." She shrugged, "I've put some spare towels on the side if you wanted to take a shower... I don't have any clothes that will fit you apart from a hoody maybe."
