James balled his fists deep inside his pockets as Paige took Claudia's hand. Her hair was in two French plaits that rested on her shoulders, her school uniform was neat and she didn't look like a baby any more.
"Have you kissed Daddy?" Claudia asked, turning to look up at him as she passed Paige her lunch box.
"No." she laughed, turning around and launching herself at him.
Catching her easily, James gave her a tight squeeze as his eyes shut tightly. "Mr Potter?"
Opening his eyes he saw Claudia standing next to Paige's new teacher, both of them smiling sadly at him. "Are you sure you're going to be okay, I can stay with you if you-"
"No." Claudia stated, reaching over and plucking Paige from his arms. "Paige is all ready, aren't you?"
"Yes." She said, kissing Claudia's cheek as she was put back on her feet. "I'm going to school, I'm going to learn science and maths and English and history."
"We're going to make some new friends today aren't we?" the teacher, Mrs Davies smiled offering Paige her hand. "There are some lovely girls and boys all looking forwards to meeting you."
"Wait." James said, darting forwards and taking Paige around her middle to whisper into her ear. "Remember I love you and that daddy is just a scientist, like Claud."
"I know." She sighed, rolling her eyes as Claudia patted his shoulder smirking. "Bye Claud, love you."
"Love you too." Claudia smiled, waving as James stayed kneeling on the floor.
"Bye Daddy."
"Bye baby." He sighed, waving as the doors shut behind her.
"It'll be alright." Claudia smiled, leaning down and pressing a kiss to the top of his head. "Think of this as training; she'll be back in a few hours if it was Hogwarts it'd be almost four months."
"Not helping." He sighed, standing up and looking down at her. "She didn't look big enough."
"She's definitely strong enough." She smiled, putting an arm around his waist and pulling him away from the school. "This school is the best around."
"Mum was right, she's too little I'm going to get her." He said, turning around and almost evading Claudia's grip.
"I swear to god James, if you go back in there you'll ruin her day." She stated, gripping his jacket and holding him still.
"She's not yours, you don't understand."
"And which of us went to school?" she snapped, walking backwards effectively dragging him from the school path.
"You hated your childhood."
"I loved it until I was eleven." She corrected, turning behind the school wall and pressing herself against him. "Lets make a deal, we go home and I'll make you feel better and if Paige doesn't come home exhausted and excited about tomorrow then she doesn't have to go again."
"You're not her mother."
"No I'm worse." Claudia said, "I'm your girlfriend and Paige's best friend."
"You really think she'll come home having had fun?" he frowned, trying to ignore her hands as they slipped inside his jacket.
"Yes." Claudia laughed, reaching up and taking hold of his chin. "Now kiss me and let's go home already."
"Eager." He teased, kissing her quickly before throwing an arm around her shoulders to make the short walk back to Claudia's house.
"Well, when do we get the chance to have a nice, long, relaxing ... time together?" she laughed, looking up at him.
