LUNCH

Xander's POV

I enter the dining hall with two of my friends, Jake and Austin. We four have been together for as long as I can remember. The fourth person is my sister. We four went through everything together. Though senior year sucked for most people, we had a lot of fun.

Right now, Jake and Austin are talking about something. I'm not paying attention to their conversation. I was searching for Gina. 

I can't believe I invited her to out table today. We all got this rule of not bringing random people to the table but then again she's not a random person. When I told my friends I was bringing a girl to our table, they were shocked but they said ok cause they know I wouldn't bring a random person to our table. There is just something about her. She's just really easy talk to. 

I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard people laughing and I saw a bunch of people standing on the other end of the hall. I saw back at Austin and Jake. They were busy talking. So, I left them and walked over to the group of people.  I saw a guy on the floor curled up into a ball holding his stomach. It took me seconds to recognize the guy. It was James Turner, the biggest douchebag I've ever met. I forgot he went to the same college as I did. I really wish he didn't though. We go way back too, but not in a good way. Saying we got a beef between each other would be putting it mildly. Very mildly. 

But why was he on the ground holding his stomach? I was watching him when he looked at someone. I followed his gaze and saw a girl with dark brown hair with her back to my face who was talking to some girl. More like asking her if she was ok or not. I realized who it was. It was Gina.

I walked over to her and tapped on her shoulder. She turned around with her amber eyes with brown strokes in between meeting mine. I was a little lost looking into her eyes to say anything. I was still looking at her when she broke the silence.

" Hey, Max!" She greeted me with a smile.

I snapped back to reality and gave her a smile and said "Hey, Genie."

She laughed at the name I gave her. Don't ask me why because I don't  know. It just came out of my mouth this morning. But what was she doing here and why was James on the floor. I looked in the direction of James who was now being lifted by two of his minions. I turned back to Genie and gave her a questioning look.

Her smile dropped and she said " Yeah..... I punched him in the gut."

I was taken aback. I  furrowed my brows asked " But why?"

She took a deep breath and started telling me what happened before I came to the hall.

" So, I came down from my room and I was looking for you when this guy came to me and asked if I wanted to go out with him. I was shocked at first. I mean I've never seen this guy in my life and he just comes up and asked me out? But I didn't wanna say much so I just told him no an started to walk away but he blocked my way. I asked him to move but he wouldn't budge. So, after a few tries of going past him, he still didn't move. So, I tried to push him slightly but he came closer."

Just hearing about this boiled my blood and I balled up my fists to my side while we were walking across the hall to go to our table. As we walked she continued 

"So I shoved him harder and he ended up on the floor. A bunch of people started laughing and he looked mad but he walked away. I sighed and started looking for you again."

I would be lying if I wasn't shocked when she said she shoved him to the floor. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't underestimating or anything but it was a shock. It never happened to that guy before. I couldn't help but be a little proud of my new friend. But when she said she punched . So I asked her

" But you said you punched him. If he walked away, what happened? Who was that girl you were talking to? Did he come back to trouble you again?" Saying that last sentence made my blood boil again and I clenched my fists again. She noticed my hands and put her hand on my shoulder and said

" Calm down. Nothing happened. And as for your question, yes he walked away but he went to hit on another girl. The girl I was talking to. She looked really uncomfortable but seemed like she couldn't get her mouth to talk so I went over to her and stood beside her and asked if she was ok, which she clearly wasn't. She gave me a look which told me she wasn't. I turned to the same guy who was creepily smirking at me. I gave him a disgusted look to which he stepped closer. I took a step back and asked him to go away. But he stepped closer again and extended his arm to put on my waist which I caught and threw away. But this made him step closer. So I balled my fist and punched him in the gut with all my force and it worked! He fell on the ground balled up holding his stomach and I turned to her and was making sure if she was ok. That's when you came."

Her hand still on my shoulder which had a calming effect, we were standing in the middle of the hall. She smiled after she completed telling me what happened and I was just looking at her. She wasn't like most girls I've encountered. She's different which makes me intrigued. I snapped out of my thoughts when she tugged my arm signaling that we should keep walking. I wanted to say something but nothing came out of my mouth so I just gave her a smile.

We were approaching our table when I saw Jake and Austin were already there and there was Zoey, our other friend. Unlike the other two, I didn't know her for too long but she's been my sister's best friend for two years now and she became a part of our group. I noticed she was talking to a girl. More like flirting, she's a lesbian, she came out last year. She was terrified we would abandon her something but she forgot the fact that Jake was bi and he came out three years ago and we didn't treat him any different. But we understood her fear and we assured her she could never get rid of us.

I don't know why I  was nervous. Thinking about it, why should anyone be nervous? All these thoughts were running through my when three of them looked at us.
