DINNER

Gina's POV

Max dropped me off at my room and went to his. I came in and closed the door with a really wide smile on my face. It's been so long since I've had real friends. The last time I thought I had true friends..... let's just say it didn't work out. 

Anyways, still with the smile on my face, I called my mom and told her all about my day. She was more than happy to hear all about my new friends. After talking to her, I put on some music and just laid on my bed. After forty minutes or so, I decided to get started on some of my readings for Psyc class. I went to my closet and pulled out a little oversized grey t shirt and changed into it. I wish my roommate would arrive soon because I'm getting a little bored all alone. I put my hair up into a bun, put on my glasses, some music and started to pick out all the things I needed and sat down at my desk.

I continued doing my work and I completely zoned out until I heard a knock on my door. I got up to get the door and when I opened, Max was standing with a smile on his face. Seeing him smile like that, involuntarily a smile crept on my face. Then I noticed he was wearing the same black jeans with a plain t shirt, he looked good.

" Hi Genie, ready for dinner?" He asked which made me look at the time and it had been hours since I've been working on my reading.

" Umm...hi..uhh..come on in." I stumbled on my words and I mentally face palmed myself. He gave me a confused look but came in and started looking around. While he was doing that, I went to my dresser and started fixing my hair. I turned to look at what Max was doing, but when I looked at him, he was already looking at me. There was a silence when we were looking into each other's eyes until he tore his eyes from mine and looked over at my desk. He then looked up at me with a grin and raised his brow. I understood what he meant by that. He was asking why I had so much stationery.

That's right, I'm a stationery collector.

I gave him a sheepish smile and shrugged my shoulders. He just chuckled while shaking his head.

" Hey, is this ok to wear to dinner or do I have to change? It's been a while since I socialized so I'm not sure." I asked him and he replied with a small smile on his face

 " You don't have to change. You look good. And trust me, there are gonna be so many  people in their PJs so you got nothing to worry about." I was relived to hear that. 

I sighed " Thank god! Let me just grab my phone and we will go." He nodded.

I grabbed my phone and my earphones and signaled him to say let's go. He walked out behind and leaned on the door frame while I was locking my room's door. After I was done, he asked me

" Don't you have a roommate? The room is for two right?"

I nodded and replied " Yeah, I do, but she's not here yet, um she had some personal emergency of sort." I shrugged and continued " I don't know, she is supposed to be here by the end of the week."

 He nodded and said "Oh, ok." As we were walking down the stairs, a question popped up in my head. He was behind me so I turned to him and I had to look up more than the normal amount 'cause he was standing on the upper stair. He looked confused as to why I abruptly stopped.

" Hey, are you in any sports in the Uni?" I asked him. He smiled and nodded

" Yeah, how'd you know?" I shrugged my shoulders and " I didn't, I just guessed it."

" Oh. Good guess. Austin, Jake and I are in the football team. I'm the captain, Austin and Jake are quaterbacks."

"Ooo, nice! Aye aye cap'n!" We burst into laughter the second I said that. We walked towards the dining hall when he asked me "By the way, why did you look so confused when I came to pick you up earlier?" 

I scratched the back of my neck which made him look at my neck. I removed my hand from the back of my neck dropped it onto my sides which made him look at my face. " Oh that, um... I kinda zoned out for a few hours while I was doing my Psyc class reading and I didn't notice the time so it took me a moment to realize that. Hehe"

He chuckled " So your telling me that you zoned out for five plus hours? How does one do that?"

I chuckled along with him and shrugged my shoulders " I don't know!" Then we were just telling each other random jokes while walking into hall.

We arrived at our table laughing and looking at each other which made the others look at us with a confused look. When we stopped laughing and looked at the table to see everyone was already there.

Zoey asked us " What's so funny guys?" I opened my mouth to answer but I didn't know what to say, I mean where do I even start? " Umm...Max? Wanna tell them?" I looked at him and he gave me a playful glare and turned to Zoey to say something but she cut him off when she turned to me 

" Wait, Max? You know his name is Xander right?" All three gave us a confused look so I answered "Oh yeah I know that. For some reason he started calling me Genie so I called him Maximus but it was too long for me to say so I started calling him Max." I told them and they reacted by raising their brows and looking at Max.

Max just rolled his eyes " Stop being over dramatic assholes. It's not a big deal." The others left a sarcastic laugh and he just scoffed. I'm totally lost here. What were they talking about.

Max just took my hand signaling me to sit. I was sitting in between Max and Zoey. Jake was sitting next to Max and Austin next to Zoey. When we sat down,  Jake turned towards Max and asked " So lemme get this straight, you , who hates when people call you by your middle name, let her call you by it and now you are saying it's no big deal and you expect us to just go along with it without any questions?"

"Exactly!" said Zoey and Austin in unison which startled me a little. I was surprised to hear what Jake just said. If he hated being called with his middle name why didn't he just say the first time, I would've understood. Or did I do something to make him think that i wouldn't understand but he was too polite to say anything so he's just tolerating it, or....

I was lost in my thoughts when Max nudged me from the side and I looked up at him. He had a worried expression. " You okay?" He asked and I just nodded my head still thinking. 

" I'm sorry about them, and I can tell by your looking at your face that you are overthinking all this in some way so let me clarify it for you. No, I don't have any problem with you calling me 'Max'. I actually like it. So, don't worry about it." He assured me and turned to his friends and said

"Guys, quit it. Yes there was a time I didn't like it but it doesn't matter anymore. This is her first day in the group, don't scare her away."

The others nodded in agreement but I was still looking up at him with a smile at him. I was still wondering how he knew what exactly I was thinking. The only other people who could do that were my parents but that's maybe because they know...

I was teared away from my thoughts when Zoey abruptly  pulled me into a hug and said " Sorry Gina, we tend to get overexcited sometimes." I was about to tell her it was ok when Austin joined the hug " Yeah, sorry Gina." Jake came next to Austin and joined in on the hug. Max let out a small chuckle " Guess we're having a group hug." With that said  he scooted closer to me and hugged me from behind and let out a sigh at the back of my neck which sent a shiver down my spine. I decided not to think too much about that. 

After the hug, we all sat and ate dinner. It was really fun. I still couldn't believe so much happened in one day. I went from zero friends to a part of a close knit group of previously five but now six friends. I can't wait to meet Max's sister. Wonder what she's like.
