The weather couldn't have been any more convenient today. The sun pierces through multicoloured, stained-glass windows, and soaks the sumptuous church with its golden rays. Flowers of white, mainly roses and lilies of the valley, lighten the nave alike the sides of the church. The view is breath-taking. The air smells so fresh and floral.
I feel my hand being gripped harder, so I turn my head to Connor and reciprocate the gesture. We both can't believe that we're here, but we are, just like the others, all of us soignée, as the circumstances require.
I hold my breath when the organist begins to play, and a delicate melody flows through the air from above the sturdy, sculpted pillars. It's a profoundly important day, therefore Davina, with some help from all of us, planned everything so it would be perfect — just like she wanted it to be. Just like it ought to be.
The mighty entrance door opens with a clank, and everyone that gathered here, turns their heads behind their shoulders. The sun spills into the inside of the church, creating a lengthy path of light, through which she begins to walk.
The music becomes more familiar — My heart will go on by Céline Dion, and the chorus pours their angelic voices into each fragile note, turning this moment into an emotional scene of true beauty.
I'm endeavouring to hold my tears as I look at her. She's clad in a heavenly dress, the petticoats of which only enhance its floaty appeal. The bodice is as sublime as the waves she'd had her hair styled into. I only wish she hadn't dyed the lavender strands back to brown, but I couldn't blame her for making this decision. She wanted to look grown up, after all, this is going to be one of the most unforgettable days of her life.
As the crowd observes her from their rammed pews, she tightens the grip around the flowers she's holding. She looks really nervous, but who wouldn't be?
I smile through tears when I see him walk by her side. Attired in a fine suit, he presents himself all matured and dignified. I would've always thought that it would be him — Will — standing with her in front of an altar, holding her hand, but life has a way of surprising even the most of omniscient people, and that's exactly why we found ourselves here in the first place.
Connor pulls me closer and kisses the top of my head as Nathan wraps his arm around Davina's waist. They look astounding together. It would be ideal, I must admit. This day would be flawless and beyond fantabulous, if only the music was being played for them. If only the flowers weren't sympathetic and Davina's dress was snowy rather than black, but we had no ability in changing the truth. The accident was fatal, and now she was laying down the flowers, saying her first but also last goodbye to someone she loved the most — her parents.
