The picnic had to end early as it had started to rain. Thankfully, they were able to get the food in the basket before it really started to pour, so none of it was ruined. However, Jam had gotten sick. Fresh didn't mind taking care of his sick little Angel, but he was beginning to think of taking his and Jam's relationship to the next level. Soon.
Because of this desire, once he was sure the younger was well enough to reheat some soup, he left for Toriel. So far, her advice has helped him greatly and he didn't want to ruin any progress he's already made!
She was quick to tell him that what he wanted, he couldn't have just yet. One, Jam was only a few years from being sixteen and in her eyes he was still a child till eighteen. She also said that it would be far too inappropriate of Fresh's age to do anything like that to such a tiny thing! Two, Jam most likely doesn't know what sex or lust is, so Fresh pushing either one of them onto Jam would be bad. Three, if Fresh doesn't head her advice, he could cause Jam to hate and fear him. This could push the younger to run away.
The parasite didn't like hearing any of that, but he was grateful. He just had to control himself so he wouldn't force his Jammy to run away. So, he listened to her when she said that he needed to carefully teach the young teen about sexual things, about consent, and all of that. He also thought it might be a good idea to help teach his love a few other things so that way his love would have something to do while he was away.
Once Paperjam was better and healthy again, was when he saw Fresh act weirdly? The parasite had began to go out more often, coming back with boxes of books, some of them old and others recent... Oddly, there were many school books.
Out of painful curiosity, he asked about them.
"Oh! Well, Ms. Toriel said that a growing person like you should have something to read and learn about! I also wanted to make sure you had something more to do than just taking care of the animals and the garden." He held a happy smile.
The smaller skeleton blinked before giving a wide, closed eye grin. He couldn't believe it! He was actually going to learn something! That means he won't spend too much time playing catch-up!
Happily, the younger grabbed one of the easier looking books, getting a sweet chuckle from the adult. The parasite gently rubbed the other's head, directing them to the couch to read the book while he organized the books in order of easiest to hardest.
For a straight week, Fresh would get up from the couch and make the two of them breakfast. He then would wake the smaller up and the two of them would eat before PJ tended to the garden and Fresh tended to the animals. Once that was done and the kitchen was clean, the two of them would then start learning a new topic for an hour or so before switching to another topic. They rarely started on the same topic, Paper finding that to be a boring way of doing things and his attention span for that wasn't long enough to care as there was more knowledge to drift towards. After a break with lunch, the two would check on the garden and animals respectfully and then they would either take a hike or play a few games before they started on another lesson.
After that straight week, the two came up with a schedule since by the end of the week both of them were physically and mentally exhausted. So, they decided that "School" days would be Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, with about three hours on Friday. The rest of the week was a chill week where the two of them either hung out or just did their own things.
Both of them liked this way of doing things as it was relaxing and since there wasn't any assignments needing to get done, there wasn't any stress. Learning quickly became something fun! And sometimes on the relaxing days, the two would do some experiments that the books had talked about!
During all that time, the garden was cared for as were the animals. The garden was happily producing all the seasonal foods there were and the animals were also producing enough milk and eggs to keep the two skeletons going.
Honestly, with how Paperjam was acting around Fresh, one would've thought he had forgotten about escaping. Even Fresh had forgotten that his Jammy could try to leave him. Yet, that wasn't true.
Sure, PJ cared about the parasite now, but he wasn't in love with them. He was angry enough at them to still want to run away, but he knew if he failed again he wouldn't try for a third time. Years had passed at this point, he wouldn't be surprised if everyone thought he was dead... So, one more time before he's just going to give into what the real monster wanted. Just one more time.
