Chapter 8~~~

Dear Journal,                 Fri. April 25 9:00pm

Today was the worst I can't believe what happened. I woke up and I don't even know what time it was but it was still dark outside. I heard Hope screaming like someone was beating the living hell out of her and things crashing around. I didn't know what the hell was going on because if mom was beating Hope this was some thing new. I ran down stairs and the dining room light was on and Hope was standing there screaming hysterically. It took me just a second to realize what she was saying 'Daddys going to kill Derik! Daddys gonna kill Derik!' (Derik is my mom's new boyfriend who she left my dad for) I heard another crash come from my mom's room before it really hit me that I had to get me and Hope out of the house. I jumped off the last step and ran to the door grabbing Hope by the arm as I did. By the time I was able to get the deadbolt unlocked mom had made it to my side she was screaming 'call 911' and holding a shotgun. I asked her where Derik's cellphone was and reminded her she didn't pay the bill for our home phone as we ran out the door. Seeing the gun made me realize just how bad this was and I took off running down the street. Hope started to run toward her friend's house across the wide yard across the street and I just barely grabbed the back of her shirt pulling her the other way. I was friends with the neighbor boys 3 houses down and they were like family to me. As we were running onto their porch I turned just in time to see my dad running down the street the other way. I pounded on the door but no one answered so I hopped the railing and started pounding on the boys' window. After we were inside and the cops had been called I noticed I was in a tank-top and my panties... Great. It wasn't until about 2 hours later when I found out if Dad had actually killed Derik or not and if it was safe for me to leave the house at all because they didn't know where he was. Turns out Derik is fine and dad ran about a mile and a half to my grandpa's house.Dad's sitting in jail now. There is a chunk missing out of mom's bedroom floor where the shotgun went off and another hole that goes through one wall of her closet and up through the ceiling inside of it from a smaller handgun. I still can't believe I didn't hear either one of the gun shots. Like WTF Dad I really wish you would just go kill yourself and leave us alone! I'm so tired but I can't sleep. I didn't go to school today and I don't think I'll be ready to go by Monday either.

I knew I was good with a panic situation because I had saved two different kids from drowning and even when Hope fell and broke her arm when mom and dad weren't home I was able to keep my cool. Being able to keep my cool when all this happened though... I don't know what to think.

I woke up Monday morning in a bad mood. The nightmare I was pulled out of by my alarm had gotten to my head even though I couldn't remember it. I decided on something simple to wear today just jeans and a hoodie. As I was heading out the door I remembered I had detention today after school... "Wonderful" I said to myself as I slammed my jeep door.

Math, Art, and History came and went like normal but I was glad when lunch rolled around. I met up with everyone at our table and sat down beside Miles. We had kind of made things official over the weekend. I wasn't thrilled but I still enjoyed having a boyfriend. Thankfully things hadn't changed or became weird now that we were dating as it seem to do when you get involved with a friend.
