Into the Woods
Chapter 7
Wren’s POV
A blackness overcame me when I woke up. It was like a blanket, suffocating me and my thoughts, and multiple times, I struggled to breathe normally. Corey hasn’t left my side since the laughter came echoing down the hall, and we haven’t talked about the incident. The doctor had said that it was the shock that caused my reaction to faint, though I feel weird. I know that my reverberation wasn’t normal. However, there was nothing I could do to prove it.
I was constantly vomiting; even after eating nothing, I would dry heave into the toilet. I never told Corey that I woke up in the middle of the night, seeming like I was screaming, but having no voice. I also haven’t talked since I woke up. There was something wrong with me; everybody knew it, but they ignored my symptoms. My reactions aren’t usually this exaggerated, but the fear of the laughter was still in my veins.
The packhouse was still locked down, and the intruder had not been found. The doctor had suggested that I was hallucinating, and the next day, he was missing. I had walked down the road to the pack doctor’s office, when I found a few blood splatters on a rock. It looked dry, as it had a brownish tint to it. Thinking that it was just a kid’s bloody nose, I continued on, being the foolish and ignorant girl I am.
Flashback:
Ignoring the rock, I continue on my way to the doctor’s office. Stepping into the cool environment, I’m immediately regurgitating my lunch on the floor. The doctor, Li, was strung up to the ceiling by hooks stabbed into his head. There was blood splattered all over the walls and floor, and it was still sticky. Li’s white lab coat was also dotted with blood, and his scalp was tossed to the side. Whole fingernails were scattered on the tiles, and his pinky finger on both hands were missing. There were long scratches going up and down his legs and arms, and those wounds alone were enough to have me throw up. Li’s eyes had been scooped out and had rolled the spot where my feet were. His mouth was open, as if he was screaming, which I’m sure he was. However, people would have heard his pleas. Confused at the scene in front of me, I focus on trying to contact someone.
Turning back to the door, I brace myself, and grab the sticky door handle. I yank, and the door doesn’t budge. Yanking again, now in panic, the door rattles, but does not swing open. Panicking and looking around the bloody room, I try to find anything that may be of use. Taking hold of the fire extinguisher, I prepare myself to break the door knob like they do in movies. However, before I can act, a voice calls out from behind me.
“Oh, you’re a smart one, yes?” he says. I slowly turn around, terrified at the supposed murderer.
“Who are you?” I ask shakily. He hum and shakes his head disappointedly.
“Now, now, Wren, it’s not the time to ask questions.” And with that, he takes the hammer and slams it against my head. In a millisecond, I’m out.
A/N: Short chapter, I know. I'm a sucky author, so I'm trying to get back on track. Promise to update soon!
