RAE'S POV

Back to school.. UGH!

Mom had to go to work early for a meeting, so my Dad woke me up and brought me to school after I got ready. When I got there, the first thing I did, was drop off my backpack at my locker. I soon realized, a person I didn't even know, slipped a party invitation through the thin opening at the bottom. It made it on top of my drawing journal I keep for boring classes and classes with annoying teachers. Such as math and language arts, and now science.

The note was on a bright, neon green, pink and blue slip with black dots and swirls. It read:

Dear Rae,
You are invited to my Beginning of the High School Year Celebration! There will be pizza, chips and dip, soda, entertainment, possibly some alcoholic beverages, and lots of people! AND NO TEACHERS OR PARENTS! Don't tell anyone!
Address - 5831 South Vlich Lane.
Sincerely,
-Jessica

Jessica? Who the hell is Jessica? I've never known a Jessica in my life, now that I think about it. And how does she know my name? And my locker location? And why would she be inviting me?

I don't know. A lot of questions ran through my head. Why? I don't know.. I've never really been invited to an actual party before. Just little birthday parties at Chuck-E-Cheese's or something like that as a kid. But nothing crazy. I guess I'm just a bit nervous.

Should I go at all? I'm depending on Mae for this one.
"Rae!" She walked over just in time. "I need to ask you something!"
"Me, too." I responded. "Did you.. Possibly.. Get an.. Invitation for something?" I kept in mind that in the note it said not to tell anyone. So, just in case Mae wasn't invited, she wouldn't ask me.

But she was.
"Yeah, actually. That's what I was gonna ask," she said, putting books in and taking books out of her locker. "Do you know this Jessica girl?"
"No," I laughed. "Do you think we should go?"

"There may be popular people there.." She replied. "Or we could miss out on something big! I don't want that to happen, then being known as the freshman losers who didn't get in on a joke or an amazing life hack." She looked in her mirror, perfecting her mascara.

I stared at her. Wow.. I really just heard that come out of her mouth? She cares that much about fitting in? The cops could bust the party or something.. And high schoolers are DEFINITELY gonna be sharing life hacks and chuckling at jokes at parties..

I feel like Mae is changing. I mean, I know it's almost like she hasn't really figured out her traits, details and personality yet, but I honestly kind of like it that way. That IS who she is ~ someone no one can really describe, because she's everywhere. In good way. She's the more interesting half of the Aes, as in Rae and Mae.

But.. It seems like she's settling in on one personality..
A bad one.

I shrugged. I know what she was trying to get at, though. We would probably be made fun of badly if we didn't go, ONLY if this is a popular chick. Which is what I'm gonna find out now.

"Wait here," I said to Mae. Like she was paying attention anyway.. She continued redoing her makeup, replying with a quiet, "K."

I went up to Dexter Fide. A jock. I've been in this high school two days, and I already know this dude. Thanks to social medias and obviously Mae. He also knows.. Pretty much everybody. I asked him about Jessica, my voice wobbly.

"Jessica Rawken?" He asked.
"I dunno.." I blushed. He was better looking then Mr. K. He seemed pretty douchey, though. "I think so."

"Yeah, she's my girlfriend. The best girl ever. She's popular, hot, smart.."
Okay.. The popular part answered my question, but why would he list that after saying she's the best girl ever?
