The Bells of St. Johns part 4
I sank down nervously into my chair, trying to swallow past the lump in my throat.
Finn smirked.
“Nice getup ye’ve got there,” he said. “Sisters get to ye then?”
I cocked my head at him, nervousness forgotten. “How did you know they’re my sisters?”
“Maybe the fact that the three of you have red hair, freckles, and the same nose?”
“Oh.”
Finn smiled, and I instinctively leaned forward. He had such nicely shaped lips…
“What can I do you for?” I jumped as the waitress arrived. Finn glanced at me, eyebrows raised.
I cleared my throat, praying for my seemingly permanent blush to go away.
“Erm, a Coke, and… chips?”
Finn nodded. “The same for me, and to start we’ll have a biteen o’ batch bread.”
The waitress, a girl with curly black hair and a horrific overbite I knew from school, smiled. I suppose she thought it was seductive, but on her, it looked like she had to go to the bathroom.
“If there’s anything else I can get you…” she purred, leaving the end of the sentence wavering in the air.
Finn pressed his lips together, like he was trying not to laugh. “No, we’re fine.”
The waitress slipped away frowning. I laughed as she went back into the kitchen and Finn looked at me. “Whatcha laughin’ at?”
“That waitress. She was puttin’ the mickey on ye like nothin’ else.”
He chuckled. “Eejit dosser.”
“Her name’s Caiomhe,” I blurted. (A/N: Keeva is how it’s pronounced).
Finn’s eyebrows contracted. “Okay?”
I blushed again and looked down. “Er.. uh I dunno why I said that…I’m a biteen of a gobshite sometimes…”
Finn laughed again, twirling his straw again. His cool green gaze focused on me and stared unwaveringly.
“How come I didn’t know ye before?” he said softly. Then he smirked. “I try to make it my business to know all of the cute boys around St. Johns.”
I cleared my throat. “I-I dunno, I’m kind of quiet…”
Just then Caiomhe the waitress slid our plates in front of us, throwing a soppy look towards Finn. This time he caught my eye and winked. I stifled a laugh.
When she walked away I grabbed a slice of bread and slid butter on it.
“So,” I started, not sure what I was going to say, but just then Finn leaned forward and grabbed my hand.
“So,” he said. “Tell me. How’s about meetin’ me at the corner of Seersha Street tomorra night. I want to take ye somewhere.”
