The Bells of Saint Johns part 2

I passed through the rest of the day in a daze. Who the blazes was Finn O’Reilly, and why hadn’t I seen him before? And he’d said I was cute… I was cute. Cute? Did that mean he was making fun of me? Or did he really think so? And he’d said the other guy’s- guy. He had dated a guy. So that meant he was gay too? Maybe…

Connor!”  The two voices were accompanied by two hard slaps on my arms.

“Ouch! Jaysus, don’t kill me, you nits,” I turned and scowled at my twin sisters, Bridget and Kathleen.  They’re fourteen and  in Second Year, and have recently developed interest for nothing but boys and clothes. They scowled back.

“Will you just get the car? We’ve got to get home, Evleen’s picking us up to go to the mall at 4,” snapped Bridget.

“Fine, Bridgey.” She hates when I use her baby nickname. I started towards the parking lot and pushed down the passenger seat to let the girls crawl into the back. I popped the seat back into place and was just about to sit in the driver’s seat when a sharp rap on the window made my head snap up.

My jaw dropped. Finn O’Reilly was standing outside my car window. I numbly stood and stepped out of the car, shutting the door behind me and ignoring the twin’s gapes.

Trathnona,” he greeted me in Irish.

I swallowed, praying I wasn’t blushing too much.

Trathnona.”

He laughed. “Your freckles disappear when you blush.”

Damn.

He laughed again. “Don’t worry. I like it. Now how about you and I get coffees after school tomorra? My Da knows the chap who owns Leaghy’s down the way.”

I nodded silently. Did I just…?

He pulled a scrap of paper from his pocket and scribbled something on it, then held it out to me.

“That’s me number. Call me tonight, ay?”

I stuffed the slip into my pocket and nodded again. God, was that all I was capable of?

“Erm- er- yeah. Sure.” Well. It was something… right?

Finn smirked and nodded, then suddenly leaned in, his lips at my ear. “Ye’d better call,” he whispered, his voice mischievous.

He then clapped me on the shoulder and strolled away.

I stood there like a mutton, mouth agape, until the twins’ pounding on the window shook me out of my stupor.

“What the bloody hell was that?” they shouted with their uncanny unison.

“N-nothin’. Nothim’ a’tall.” I muttered, but inside I was beaming.

A date.

I had a date.

With gorgeous Finn O’Reilly.

Who I didn’t know from Adam.

Shit.

What was I going to wear?
