The Bells of St. Johns part 5

After I choked out an okay to Finn, our food arrived and we spent the next hour or so chatting idly.

All during lunch my mind was spinning. I liked him. I liked him a lot. But… I was so far in the closet I was practically in Narnia, and being with Finn would catapult me out.

But I wasn’t so sure I minded.

Finn was… well, perfect. Gorgeous, smart, funny, not to mention his air of mystery and allure… and his undeniable sexiness.

Jaysus. Two days ago I would have called myself a fairy and whacked myself round the head, and now… Jaysus Mary and Joseph.

But I really liked him. Maybe lov-no. I canna think like that.

And anyway, how was I to know how he felt? He was such a mystery I never knew if he was playing around or whether he was truly voicing his feelings.

A sharp thwap on the side of my head jerked me back to reality.

“You do that a lot, you know,” said Finn.

I rubbed my head. “What’s that?”

He smiled, running a hand through his hair. “Go a million miles away. But don’ worry. I do that too, mostly when I’m writin’.”

“You write?”

“Songs. Music, mostly,” he cleared his throat. “Poems, sometimes. I tried writin’ a story once…” he chuckled nervously. “Was a complete haymes.”

I smiled at him, surprised at his nervousness. “Tha’s cool.  I’d like to have a listen at one o’ your songs someday.”

Just then Caoimhe came with our bill. I reached for it, but Finn grabbed it before I could.

“Ye’re not payin’. I took you out, remember?” He said, then let out a hoot of laughter.

“Wha?”

He pushed the bill at me, still laughing.

On the bottom of the bill, in pink pen, were the words,

Call me anytime~ I stay up late <3 Caiomhe McCally

I snorted, but I felt a weird twinge in my chest. It felt almost… possessive?

Cool fingers wrapped around my own, contracting lightly.

“Shall we go?” asked Finn.

Dazed that he was holding my hand- actually touching me- I nodded and let myself be led out into the rain by Finn.
