Vince POV

I burst out of the meeting and hurried to Sam's bedroom, my heart pounding. As I reach the open doorway, I'm shocked to see the door lying on the ground, off its hinges. I quickly take in the scene, and my eyes dart around the room, searching for Mel, but all I see is chaos. They left the bed sheets thrown about, some hanging off the bed and others flung across the floor. They flipped the couch, adding to the disarray.

"No," I frantically bolted around the room, searching for him. "MEL! Where are you?!" Nothing. Not a peep. I sniffed the air, trying to track where they exited. Mel's scent lingered towards the large, rounded bay window slightly ajar. "We're on the top floor. How did they safely get down with Mel?" I said aloud.

"They probably threw him out the window." My wolf states dryly.

"Do not say that," I scold him as my hand rests on the window edge, looking towards the forest line. They are nowhere to be seen. "Damn it." I rush through the doorway, step on the broken door, and slide down the stairs. I run down the hall in the direction of Rory's room. I rip his door open, but the room is empty. I take a deep breath and notice my heart is pounding rapidly in my chest. "SAM!"

I backtrack into the meeting room to find Sam knocked out on the ground. I crouch down next to him and feel his pulse. It is steady and strong. Thank the moon goddess; our Alpha is okay. With one swift movement, I hoist him up and over onto my shoulder. He lets out a groan. "Sorry, Alpha." As I walk to the basement door where my room is, I pull out my phone and try calling Rory. It barely rings before Rory picks up.

"Vince? What's up?" Rory sounded shocked that I called him.

"Oh, thank the moon goddess, you're okay," I said, turning the knob to my door.

"Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?" He said, confused.

"The pack house was raided. They took Mel. Where are you?" I said, getting straight to the point.

"Who took Mel?! Where's Sam?" he panicked.

"His old pack took him, but I have Sam; he's okay," I said as I laid Sam gently onto my bed.

"I'm coming to the pack house now."

"Meet me in my room," I ended the call. "Sam?" I nudged his shoulder as lightly as possible. His face contorted in pain.

"Nghh." He winces. Seeing my Alpha, the wolf in charge of us all, in such a vulnerable state on my bed feels weird. I sit on the edge of my grey bed, my back is to Sam. Relaxing, I let a breath out that I didn't realize I was holding in. Breathing back in the smell of cherries and mint wrapped around me. "Fuck me. Are you serious right now?" I say literally to no one since Sam is non-responsive.

This was expected, but still. The moon goddess has bonded the four of us for some godly reason.

Until a few days ago, I wouldn't have even thought about Mel and Rory in the ways I have been. But with Sam, I turned my head to look at his face. His eyes are wide open, and he stares back at mine. "Jesus fuck Sam!" I stand up immediately to put a distance between my Alpha and I.

"Are Mel and Rory okay?" I give him a sorrowful look.

"Rory is on his way. I'm guessing he was on a call fixing something at one of the family homes during the attack." I sit back down next to him.

"And-" He hesitates, already knowing the answer to his next question.

"They took him before I even made it upstairs. I'm sorry, Alpha." His face twists in disgust. He props himself up on his elbows slowly.

"I promised him he would never go back there. I promised him he would be safe." Sam stares off into space briefly, getting into his head, probably overthinking.

"Alpha, you had every precaution in place. You had all of our army on patrol. You had guards at every entrance. You did all you could to prevent this. I will not let you blame yourself." My hand goes to caress his face, but I pull back. I look away from his questioning eyes.

"Don't fight it, Vince. You can give in." Sam sits upright, resting his hand on my back.

"I have no idea what you're talking about, Alpha." My cheeks flush red.

"I know you are feeling guilty because of who has Mel. Let me dull that pain, even for a moment."

He brings his pointer and middle finger to my chin, gently pushing my face to turn to him once more. He looks at my lips and then back into my eyes. Sam leans in, letting our lips touch, and my eyes flutter closed. Our lips lock slowly and passionately. My hand has a mind of its own and grips the back of Sam's head, pulling him closer. I deepen our kiss, only for us to be interrupted.

"Whoa, I know our Alpha is hot, but is this the time for that, boys?" I hear the smile in Rory's voice. My hand falls from the back of Sam's head, and he stands, blocking my view of Rory.

"Vince needed to calm down, as did I." Sam glances back at me. Sam smiles at me and goes to hug Rory. "I'm glad you're okay." I hear Sam say to him.

"Okay, okay, enough of the mushy gushy love shit." I tease slightly, standing up and sliding my hands into my pockets. "Let's make a plan and get our mate back."
