Odin POV

After freshening up in my new bathroom, I wanted to explore the pack house. I opened my door very slowly so I wouldn't wake anyone as it was late. According to the clock in my room, it was midnight. I tried to be as quiet as possible, but the stairs creaked under me the whole way down.

I reached the first-floor landing that flows into the living room space. I admired the sizeable 80-inch TV on the wall and the massive console collection. Someone here really likes gaming.

I turn back to where the stairs are, eyeing an open doorway to a kitchen. It's just to the left of the stairwell.

Alpha Sam invited everyone to the dining hall earlier to eat, but I didn't feel social. I peeked my head through to the kitchen, and it was empty. It's a beautiful modernist kitchen with blacks and grays. The counters are white and spotless.

I make a beeline to the fridge, rummaging through it, looking for something to eat. Turning around with a soda can, I startle at a brown-haired boy in the kitchen doorway, dropping the can.

"Oh my goddess, you scared me!" I whisper shouted at the boy.

"Sorry! I didn't mean to scare you." His voice is soft and melodic.

"It's okay. I hope I didn't wake you. I was trying to be quiet."

"No, you didn't, but yes, you did."

"What do you mean?" I laugh at the odd answer from the boy. He shakes his head as if he was scolding himself.

"Sorry, I promised myself I wouldn't bother any of you until you were all settled, but I wanted to introduce myself to you." He walked closer to me and stuck his hand out. "I'm Melody, but you can call me Mel."

"Odin." I took his hand in mine, shaking it. I felt a jolt of electricity run through his hand and into mine. I froze, not sure what to say. I looked at my hand and then his face. He closed his blue eyes and briefly bit his lip. When he reopened his eyes, they had darkened. My heart fluttered in my chest, becoming excited, but I was unsure why. He breathed in deeply and smiled at me sweetly.

"What was that?" I asked curiously.

"You don't know?" he asked me, and I shook my head no. He let go of my hand and grabbed me by my waist. Whoa. He rested his face on my neck, inhaling deeply. I did the same and immediately felt weak in the knees. He smells of vanilla and coconut.

"He is our mate, Odin." My wolf howls. My eyes widened, and I scrambled backward, covering my mouth. Mel watches with a hurt expression.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to be that dramatic. I've been alone for so long I don't know how to feel about having a mate." I let my arm fall to my side and stood before him.

"That's okay. I can understand that feeling." He goes right back to smiling.

"So, do we like kiss, or what happens now?" I ask shyly, scratching the back of my neck. Melody giggles at my question.

"We can if you would like?" He rests his arms on my shoulders, locking his hands together at the nape of my neck. I let my hands grip onto his waist, pulling him into me. Melody leans his head to the side, and I flutter my eyes closed. I feel his lips connect with mine, and we begin to move in sync. Melody isn't the first boy I've kissed. Back in my old pack, before I became a rouge, I was pretty popular, you could say. I had boys and girls throwing themselves at me. Kissing my mate, though, feels different this means something. He is my mate, and I am his. Mel pushes me up against the counter, deepening our kiss. I let a small moan escape as his tongue slips into my mouth ever so slightly. I pull away and open my eyes, as does he.
