Now you might be wondering what these two boys have to do with each other. Well it's not that hard to explain. They're the same age and live on the same street. And now you may think that their parents where friends or that they met trough a play-date or at a neighbourhood BBQ or some other sweet simple scenario like that. Sadly these boys met in rather unfortunate circumstances.

They both went to different schools. While Marcus went to a public nearby elementary school Ezra went to a private elementary school that was located right in the heart of the city. But they still went to the same spring forest every evening. You see, the thing with humanals is that every day or so they have to recharge their magic. The only place they can do so are in the forest surrounding the spring trees. There are only about thirty of these in every country (depending on the size of the country of course). But since humanals need these forests to survive they can only live in places close by them. Which is why there are certain cities with a very dense humanal population while there are also cities that are home to no humanals at all. But Marcus and Ezra live in walking distance from one of these forests. Which is why they have probably seen each other while recharging at some point. But this still isn't how they met.

Marcus had been bullied at his school from the age of seven but it got really bad once he turned nine. One day during recess other kids where pushing him around and taking his lunch from him. "Wait!" He yelled out. "That's the only food I have for today". He looked at the other kids with his big brown eyes full of tears. "Please don't take it". But there was no use in begging they still ate his sandwiches without a second thought. Then they pushen him to the ground, kicked him, insulted him, made fun of him for being weak and....As soon as Marcus saw an opening he got up and ran. But he wasn't planning on just running to some other spot on the playground, he wanted to go. He wanted to go home. So he ran straight to the school gate. But he didn't care. He just used all the power he had in his bruised little nine year old body and crawled over the low fence. After that he just kept running. His house was only like 1.5 kilometres away after all. And once he got there he realised that......he didn't have a key.

On that very same day Ezra was sitting in the principal's office. At only nine years old he was already miles ahead of his peers. Especially when it came down to math. He was a true mathematical wonder. He would often even ask for extra math homework just so he would have a distraction once he got home. But even tho he was clearly a very gifted child he would still constantly get in trouble. Because of the way he grew up he believed that the only way to solve non mathematical problems was to use violence. He would get in fights during recess (often multiple times a day) and he would get physically violent at the slightest sign of disrespect. I mean can you really blame him? He was just doing what his father had taught him, right? I mean it's not like he knew any better. But one day it went a little too far. Since dragons are naturally stronger then most humans and humanals none of the fights he got in were ever really fair. On this unfortunate day he had bitten a student so hard blood started flowing everywhere. I mean the poor boy was lucky he got off with just a flesh wound. Dragons have extremely sharp fangs and even the children have a bite force that is capable of crushing bones. But the principal still wasn't happy with this outcome. Ezra was just sitting quietly on his chair during the long lecture. He didn't really care about what had happened and just wanted to get it over with. Though at some point mid way through the lecture he got bored.

Ezra was a very able-bodied kid. He was strong, incredibly fast and and way above average height. He of course was fully aware of these facts. He knew that he could easily outrun any adult if he wanted to. So, that's what he did. He just got up and started booking  it down the school hallway. The teachers where obviously unable to catch him. He hopped over the tall school gate with easy but the real problem came after that. He lived five kilometres away from school, which wasn't the problem I mean he could easily run that far. But did he even want to go home? I mean did he have anywhere else to go, right? Well actually he did. So he ran six kilometers until he reached the spring forest.

Once he entered the thick forest he knew he didn't have to hide anymore. So he let his shiny dark green wings open from his back. Two sharp grey horns sprouted out of the top of his head and a long green spikey tail dragged on the floor behind him as he slowly started walking over the path of sticks and leaves. The forest always had a mysterious aura, even after he'd already been there a thousand times. The little pink and purple orbs that floated around between the blades of grass were still mesmerising to watch. As he walked through the forest he stumble upon a small open space. In the middle of this opening there was a large tree that looked very similar to the spring tree from this forest. But there was a very distinct difference. Hidden between the leaves of this tree there was a small treehouse. "The perfect place to read my book". Thought Ezra as he flew up the tree trunk. But once he set foot in the treehouse there was another surprise waiting for him. A small butterfly boy was sat in the corner of the wooden house. With his head buried in his knees and his arms wrapped around his head. He was crying.
