Dr. McCoy said that there was a possibility that he could bring Jim back to life. All he needed was Khan's blood. Spock couldn't wait for the opportunity to beat the living hell out of Khan after hearing the doctor's words until Uhura had reminded him that they needed Khan alive.

Which is why he is currently dragging the form of a terribly beaten and unconcious Khan back to Starfleet. He had previously let his human emotions to control him during the battle with Khan. Each punch and kick given to the superhuman was for Jim. If you were to inform the First Officer of the agony, anger and despair written across his face in that moment, he would stoically deny it.

Spock retreated to his quarters as Bones started working on reviving Jim. He sort of wanted to stay and witness the entire process but feared that he may seem too human in doing so. Showing your emotions is part of being human, which means it is also a part of you Spock, his mother's voice chided. Spock let out a slow sigh. Since when did he begin to think so humanly? Oh right, since Jim came into the picture. No other human on Earth, not even Uhura, has had Spock pondering their presence for a long period of time. Jim was literally like a piece of a puzzle which demands to be solved but no one else had attempted to do so before. Spock knew, somewhere deep inside himself that he could be the one to unravel the mystery which is James T. Kirk.

Which leads him to encounter another question : When the heck did his world started to revolve around his captain? Surely the captain can solve his own problems. He won't need a babysitter, especially not a Vulcan one. They were just friends. Oddly that term seemed unfitting due to the present circumstance and Spock *almost* swore that he could hear Jim shouting in the distance asking when the hell had his first officer became so illogical.

"I must meditate immediately," he spoke loudly to himself. As Spock prepared himself for a long meditating session, his mind couldn't help but stray back to Jim. And Jim's incomplete last word. Again. It was the 14th time that day alone.
