Literature class was by far the easiest class of the day for you. It always was. You weren’t all that interested in the book you were covering right now, but it wasn't the worst. While you listened to the teacher drone on about all the symbolism that was definitely in the book, you were back to sketching to pass the time.
At the moment you had been doodling eyes, different shapes and expressions, but you glanced at the page with the birds you had been drawing before math. That reminded you that Murdoc had a pet bird.
‘Sort of’ you thought to yourself. ‘How does someone ‘sort of’ have a pet?’ Then you started wondering what kind of bird it would be.
Murdoc is way too worried about his image to have something cute like a cockatiel. Though you could definitely saw him having one just because of the name. ‘Maybe it’s a parrot?’ you thought, having to stifle a giggle. You could definitely see a kid Murdoc being obsessed with pirates and wanting a parrot. You managed to keep yourself from laughing, but you couldn’t stop the grin that formed on your face as you sketched a little cartoon about a Pirate Murdoc and his bird.
You had been stuck trying to come up with a name for the parrot but were interrupted by the bell, signalling class was over. ‘Oops.’
You had gotten a bit too distracted and completely missed what was happening in class. Hopefully one of your lunch pals was listening. You quickly gathered up your stuff and headed out the door.
Next up was phys. ed. How you hated this class. You hated it in the States and you hated it here. The class itself wasn’t really that bad, you kind of half-assed your way through it most of the time anyway, the part you didn’t like was changing into and out of your gym uniform. You didn’t have a real reason for being so uncomfortable with it, that’s just how you always felt about it. It didn’t help that you never really talked to anyone in class with you.
After a few torturous rounds of soccer- sorry, football, you were free. You made your way down through the halls to the cafeteria, stopping to leave your things in your locker a new person joining you every so often until your lunch posse was complete. You listened to the conversation they were having. Throwing in a generic ‘yeah, of course’ or ‘that’s crazy’ when they looked to you for input. They were talking about some dating game show thing that you’ve never heard of.
Just as your group was about to round the corner to the cafeteria, you heard someone shout ‘there you are!’ and you suddenly felt yourself being pulled into a sort of side-hug. You realized it was Murdoc instantly from his voice and the still apparent scent of alcohol. As you pulled yourself out of his oddly jovial grasp, you laughed a bit.
“Who are you and what did you do with that grump, Murdoc?” You teased, neither of you paying any mind to the fact that the group you had been walking with was huddled together, mumbling about something. Murdoc leaned into you again to whisper something. Being this close you could see his already dark eyes were dilated to almost an unnerving point. As he began to talk he rooted around in the jacket pocket.
“I can show ya where he went, if ya want. I’ve got some extra.” He had an almost creepy grin as he laughed darkly.
“I’ll pass, thanks.. Are you going to be alr-” You started slowly before you were interrupted by one of the girls from your group, Anne, pulling your arm so you would face them.
“(y/n), we told you you needed to stay away from him!” Anne had an almost frantic look about her, as if just being in the same space as Murdoc terrified her. A chorus of agreement followed her, everyone near pleading for you to go with them and forget the highly intoxicated student behind you.
None of you were paying much attention to Murdoc at the moment, but this time he didn’t mind so much. Even though the effects of his high left him struggling to really follow what was happening, he could comprehend enough to know that the group of kids you had been with didn’t like him and were trying to keep you away from him. .
He saw you forcefully pull your arm away from the girl in the front. He was still too hazed to really pick out who was saying what, and he didn’t try to either. Past experience said the crowd would get their way like always. He snarled at the group, catching the glare of one of the kids in the back, before starting to storm off. He was only a handful of steps away before he heard someone call for him. He continued to walk off, ignoring the call.
After you took your arm back from Anne, you were in the middle of an argument about ‘people like him’ when you noticed Murdoc quickly making his way through the cafeteria to the pavilion doors.
