[Sorry for the radio silence, I've been struggling. Questions, comments, suggestions, critiques- all is welcome!]

You left the building and started walking in the direction of your house in a nervous silence for a few minutes. You managed to pluck up the courage to speak first, but your voice came out small.

“... I’m sorry.” You looked up to your companion after you spoke with an almost guilty look in your eyes. Murdoc had turned to look l at you too, but he had a look of intense confusion.

"You’re sorry?? What the hell ‘ave you got to be sorry about?! I’m the dickhead that went off, not you!” You continued to look up at the, slightly less green than before, boy as you walked. You smiled just a little as Murdoc went on his rant.

"Yes, I’m sorry. Of course I’m sorry. You might’ve been the one that lost it, but I shouldn’t have reacted like that.” Silence fell between you. You weren’t sure what to say next, you kind of felt like you’d done your part of the apology, so you decided to just let Murdoc say something in his own time.

“... I’m sorry, too. I, uh.. I suppose I could’ve handled that all a bit better as well.” Murdoc had resorted to glaring at the ground while the two of you walked down the sidewalk. There was a beat of silence before Murdoc chuckled softly. He had a sort of sad, far away look in his eyes as he turned to look at you with a small smirk. “I don’t think anyone’s ever actually apologized to me before.. Thank you.” You returned the boy’s soft smile with the same look.

“So... I’ve kind of noticed things might not be so great at your place... I’m not trying to pry or anything, and if you don’t want to talk about it, that's fine. But... Is that why you went off like that?” You figured you could risk a question like that at the moment. Murdoc had a worried look in his eyes as you asked your question, quickly returning his attention to the pavement.

“Uh… I mean... I guess that’s what it all boils down to, eh?” He glanced over to you quickly. Murdoc felt ridiculously vulnerable right now and was kind of starting to panic. “I, uh.. I don’t really want to get into it, right now…” Trailing off, Murdoc looked over to you again, a pleading look in his eyes.

“Okay. That’s alright, but…” You paused, stopping to open your backpack to find a loose paper and pen. Murdoc just stood there watching you.

‘What the hell is she doin’ now?’ Murdoc thought to himself as he watched you scribble something on a piece of paper before repacking your bag and standing up again. You handed the crumpled paper to Murdoc.

“This way, if you ever want to talk or need to vent for a while, you at least have my number.” You smiled softly towards your new friend, who offered a weak smile in return. He was still taken aback by how kind you were being, and to him of all people.

“I’ll be sure to keep this safe, thank you.” Murdoc’s smile was starting to look more like his usual expression. The two of you started walking again, you lightly bumped him in the shoulder as you set off.

“Don’t worry, Murdy birdy, all is forgiven this time. But thanks to you I’ll be eating lunch alone from now on.” You talked with as much of a stern voice you could make, looking up at Murdoc with a smirk. “And if you yell at me like that again, I'll bite your legs off.” Murdoc laughed along with you, swearing on Robert Smith’s hair to not be such a dick. With you, at least.

The next few minutes of the walk was pleasant, the two of you bouncing between topics. Murdoc listened to you go on about your favorite games and interests, and you did the same while he talked about music and small bands from the area.

Now the two of you were approaching the small park you had met in the day before. "You wanna, maybe, just hang around here for a bit and shoot the shit?" Murdoc motioned toward a nearby picnic table as he spoke. You nodded in agreement, following him toward the table."It's rare to get decent weather like this 'round here." Murdoc continued as you made your way to the table.
