The Next Morning

Still Shelby's Point of View

I woke up the next morning with a slight headache. I'm not used to drinking that much I guess. I rolled over and noticed Karlie wasn't in the bed. I noticed her bag was still here but she wasn't anywhere to be found, she wasn't in the bathroom, and I even walked down the hall to see if she was getting breakfast. She wasn't there either. I must have freaked her out. I gathered all of my stuff and went home to figure out what to do next.

When I got home I started freaking out. I opened my bedroom window to get some fresh air in the room and help me calm down. Then my phone rang. I figured it had to be Karlie, so I picked it up quickly and answered. It wasn't Karlie though.

"Hey Shelby, how have you been?" a familiar voice asked.

I looked down at the phone and saw it was Charlie who called, not Karlie.

"Oh, hey Charlie. Um, I've been alright I guess... why are you calling me?" I asked.

"I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. What we had was special and I messed that up. I'm sorry. I realized that I am still in love with you, I never stopped loving you, I just got confused for a bit." She explained.

"Oh," I said. I wasn't sure how to respond.

"What do you say we get dinner tonight? We can take things slow if you would like" Charlie suggested.

I was really caught off guard by this. I haven't heard from Charlie since we went our separate ways, and here she was calling me out of the blue confessing her love for me.

"Charlie, I will always care about you. But I am in kind of a weird spot right now and was not expecting this call. If we go down this route, I know it will be hard, so I don't want to make this decision lightly." I responded.

I wasn't sure how I felt about Charlie. I loved Charlie so much when we were together, maybe it really is meant to be. But I still don't know what is going on with Karlie. If she were actually interested in me, I really think she could be the one. And after last night I am still not sure where I stand with her. I needed time to process what was going on right now without shutting either door, but I can't tell Charlie I am trying to figure out my relationship with another woman at the moment.

"I have some other personal issues in my life right now that I need to figure out. Just give me a little bit of time, and I will get back to you." I promised.

"Ok, I will wait to hear from you." She said and hung up.

I spent the rest of the day trying to keep myself preoccupied, waiting for Karlie to come home, but she never did. I tried texting her, but she didn't respond. I texted Elliot to see if he had heard from Karlie and he said he hadn't. I was starting to get really worried about her.
