Charlie's Point of View

"Well I guess since everything is already on the table, I might as well explain the whole story. Shelby, I really did love you, and I still do. When we got together it was the first serious and committed relationship I had ever been in. I thought I could do that for you, but as time went on I found myself wondering what else was out there. Then, one day at work I met this striking young architect, Karlie."

I looked at Karlie and Shelby. I couldn't quite read their expressions, but they remained silent.

"Well it started out as harmless flirting, then I found myself becoming really attracted to her. I thought that if I just got it out of my system, I could move past my fears and settle down with you, Shelby. One night we went out to drink after work, and Karlie was there. One thing lead to another, but we didn't sleep together."

"The only reason we didn't sleep together was because I asked to go back to your place and you made up some excuse." Karlie added.

"I was the reason she didn't bring you home." Shelby realized.

"Ok, well technically that is true. But it didn't happen." I said. "Well I felt guilty, so I broke up with you, Shelby. Part of me thought I could get with Karlie if you were out of the picture, part of me felt like I didn't deserve you. But I realized while you've been gone, that I want you and no one else."

"Then why are you here right now, with my roommate?" Shelby asked furiously.

"You and I have not technically gotten back together yet. I wasn't sure if you were really going to take me back or not, or if this dinner was your way of letting me down easy. I thought if I got this out of my system, I could be better to you this time around. Be all in." I admitted.

Shelby stared at me and started to tear up. Then she exchanged a look with Karlie, then grabbed her keys and ran out the door.

I looked over at Karlie to see what her reaction was.

"Get. Out. Now." She said in a low stern voice.

And so I did.
