Chapter Two:

*EH! EH! EH!*

The noisy and extremely irritating alarm went off, telling me it was time for yet another day of work. I smacked the alarm with more force than was needed. I lay there for a few moments before jumping out of bed and into the shower. Almost as if making my body do it, before it could complain. I turned the heat all the way up and I let her pajamas fall to the floor. The room was filled with steam by the time I stepped into the shower. Letting the boiling water pour down my stiff neck muscles, I let out a sigh. My neck relaxed. Every morning I woke to a stiff neck. "Time to go to the chiropractor," I said aloud, "Great. Exactly what I need. 'That'll be another three hundred dollars out of your already struggling pocket!'" I imitated the overly happy tone of voice from the receptionist.

Before I stepped out if the shower, I turned all of the heat off. I let the icy cold water trickle down my bare skin to wake me up out of my trance from the hot water. Sinking to the floor, head between my knees, daydreaming about adventure. Somewhere far away, away from my life. If you could call it a a life. Finally, I rose up from my fetal position, (which hurt my back from sitting there so long), and stepped out of the shower. Washing my face and rubbing lotion on my dry legs from shaving, I ran out of time as always. Throwing on some make up, brushing my teeth so hard and fast that my gums bled, and not even bothering to comb my hair and instead throwing it in a bun, I was out the door. That is, until I was half way down the street to my bus stop realizing I wasn't wearing pants. Face burning with embarrassment, I ran to the house as fast as I could.

'Crap, I'm going to be late again,' I thought with frustration.

Once I was fully clothed, I ran to the bus stop. Gasping for air with burning lungs, I find that the bus is already turning around the corner. Gone out of sight.

"No, no, NO!" I gasp, half screaming half crying.

The pub was much too far to walk to, that'd take all day. I'd just have to wait for the next bus, which was in...

"An hour," I groaned.

After what seemed like forever, I could hear the next bus coming my way. I jumped up, grabbing my bag, and pulled out the change to get me to where I needed to go. The bus smelled like BO, Chucky Cheese, (gross pizza and vomit), and plastic. The rock hard seats didn't cushion my butt as the bus bumped up and down.

The bus jolted to a stop as people filed off going about their business. I slowly stepped down each step, not looking forward to what was coming...

"But I-" I pleaded.

"NO! That was your last warning Melanie. I clearly stated that if you were late once more this week, I'd have to let you go. I'm sorry, but I need employees that I know I can count on to always arrive on time!" Mr. Grant stated.

I didn't even bother catching a bus. I didn't want to spend anymore money that I didn't have. After two hours of walking, I reached the front door to my small apartment. Feet sore and muscles aching, I flopped down onto the couch. Eating a carton of ice cream while watching my favorite show, Doctor Who, I kicked off my shoes and let out a long sigh. If only I could go away with the Doctor. It was the episode where Rose and the Doctor got separtated. Poor Doctor. Finally has someone he loves and then she's gone. As the episode went on, I was wishing I could be there for the Doctor. I drifted off to sleep to the sound of his sweet voice...
