Chapter Nine:
The whirl off the Tardis was thrilling. The Tardis purred under my touch, as if I was an old friend. Rivers curly hair swung as she flipped dials and pushed more buttons. I was getting dizzy and felt like I might get sick all over the Tardis' floor, and I don't think she, River, nor the Doctor would appreciate that very much.
Just as I was seriously considering opening the Tardis door to vomit in a wormhole, we came to a sudden halt. I glanced over at River, who looked completely fine. She strolled over the the Tardis doors and gave them a gentle push. They swing open to a rush of cold air, a child shouting, "Get you paper here! Find out what the latest bite is! Five cents!", and old car horns.
"Ah," River sighed. "1930's. Charming. Well! Off we go!"
I nodded still holding my mouth afraid to open it. I clumsily walked over to the doors, when River stopped me.
"You okay, sweetie? You look drunk," she said with the corners of her mouth twitching.
I gave an uninformative, "Mm.", and made my way towards the door, only to be stopped again.
"Ehem," River cleared her throat, looking me up and down. "You can't go around in the thirties dressed like that. What was the year you were living in again? By the looks of you I'd say.. Lets see...." She reminded me a lot of The Doctor the way she spoke, "Layered long black hair, colored blue at the tips, big rimmed glasses, make up only on your eyes, high top green converse, oh you'll get along with the Doctor in those shoes, a pair of dark blue skinny jeans, a shirt with some band I don't recognize.... And the Doctor's trench coat...."
I turned a brilliant shade of red. I'd forgotten I was wearing it.
"Yes, I'd say 2018, and I'm going to guess..... 17 years old?"
"T-Twenty one," I stammered.
"Oh! Sorry, my mistake." It was River's turn to turn red.
"It's fine, I've always been assumed to be younger than I am all my life," I said looking down, scuffing my feet on the Tardis floor.
"Well, you know, it'll come in handy when you get to be around my age," River said with a wink. I gave her a weak smile. "Anyways, we need to change you into something that better suits this time period."
She walked into the depths of the Tardis, and without looking back, snapped her fingers and closed the Tardis door. I followed her, tripping over my own feet.
She was standing in front of a door, with her back still to me, that looked like it lead into a closet. Hearing me come, she gave them I push. I walked into the room, but it was too dark to see anything. River flipped the lights on one by one. As they came on, I noticed that this closet, was yet again, bigger on the inside. Thousands of racks of clothes hung everywhere. Spiral stairs shooting up to different stories of the closet that held more clothes.
I allowed my self a small gasp. River looked please with herself.
"Now, the men's wear is on the right, the women's is on the left. The racks are labeled, some for different planets, some for different time periods on earth. There is a bathroom to wipe off the make up and.. What shall we do with your hair?" She asked more to herself. Her hip swung out as she out all her weighted on one side of her, holding her elbow with one arm, the other on her lips. Her brow was furrowed as she thought of what to do.
"I guess we could just... Put it up? Maybe a bun, pony tail, or braid. Then we could tuck the blue tips in your dress or something?"
"D-Dress...?"
"Yes, sweetie, this IS the thirties after all and girls didn't go walking around in jeans."
She showed me to the dresses, which were all girly. Ugh.
