"what do you want?"
weimar exhaled, which usually means he's dreading something.
that can't be good.
"hello to you too, vater,"
the empire narrowed his eyes.
"you are stalling. stop it, and answer my question,"
weimar only exhaled again, making that annoying wheezing sound.
"so, um, funny story-"
"weimar berlin republic, answer the damn question."
he sighed.
"look, can you just watch east and west for today? third is painting these blasphemous images, so i am going to get him exorcised again,"
german empire physically cringed back.
"nein. i am awful with children,"
the smaller of the two just rolled his eyes.
"certainly, if my youth was an indicator. they are already in the treehouse in the back, by the way. good luck!"
"WEIMAR-"

"hallo, *großvater!"
german empire grumbled and slammed his office door on the young girl's face.
"fick dich, großvater!"

after only a few minutes of hearing shuffling outside, the locked door opened.
"hallo again!"
the tricolored country spun around in his chair, staring down at the two children.
"how did you get in here!?"
the boy, was the boy west or east?, rolled his eyes.
"we are 10, that is like, practically an adult. everybody knows how to pick a lock by 10!"
the girl giggled, no, the girl was east, right??
"oui! that is french, großvater,"
shock wearing off, the empire scrunched his nose at them.
"yes, i know that is french. what do you think i am, stupid?"
the girl beamed up at him.
"oui!"

with a newly earned red mark on her cheek, east continued climbing up her grandfather's legs.
"would you two leave me alone? i am busy, i have to do things today,"
west snorted.
"ooo, east! großvater has a boyfriend!"
repulsed, the empire dragged him up by the wrist.
"what did you just say, child? where did you learn that?"
west only wheezed in laughter, disgusting, ge thought, he has his father's laugh.
"from mr. russia and mr. union!"
the empire made a mental note to taunt russian empire about that later.
"that is disgusting, never insinuate anything like that ever again,"
west just kicked him in the shin.

the empire was attempting to sleep on his sofa when east jumped on his stomach.
"großvater! großvater! did you know third is possessed? that's what vater says!"
ge groaned.
"yes. now leave me alone, or lord help me i will-"
west slapped him, and the striped country sputtered insults in shock.
"god is dead!"

german empire was tired.
the children had infiltrated his kitchen and were sitting on the counter eating the sweets he had stored to lure austria-hungary's children into his pantry.
"are these for mr. empire's wife?"
east squeaked through mouthfuls of the candy he had "borrowed" from dutch.
"i do not have a wife, she died from the burden of your father,"
the small ones both made an 'oo' sound of realization.
"so that's why mr. empire is so sad?"
not bothering to fight the children anymore, he answers with an exhausted nod, placing his head in his hands.
out of the corner of his eye, he sees the children glance at each other.
almost begrudgingly, west gets up and gives him one of the wrapped sticks.
"vater says that butterscotch is mr. empire's favorite. it is our favorite, too,"
sighing, ge unwrapped the stick and popped it in his mouth.
"you are both insufferable. tell my sohn he has failed as a father. i am going to go smoke,"
west gleefully kicked him in the shin.
brat.

"mr. empire smells awful,"
west criticizes, curling himself up into a small ball of annoyance.
he let out a wheezy laugh again.
east giggles at his comment, and a single word makes him lose it.
"oui!"

the children were being dragged by the ears behind him, giggling as their grandfather seethed.
"you are going to stay outside and not bother me, got it? stay away,"
west did his stupid wheezy laugh, and fed up, ge slapped him across the face.

the children hadn't bothered him in a few hours, and against his own judgement, ge starts to get worried.
he peaks out the window to see west sobbing and east glaring at the door from the treehouse.
scheiße.

"uhm, children?"
east threw a rock in his eye.
"*hurensohn!"
"stay away from my brother!"
the empire sighed gripping his pants with shaking fists to calm himself.
"look, i am sorry, ja? i will make you cookies if you do not do that again,"
west sniffled and looked up.
"you will?"
ge sighed.
"ja, now please do not throw rocks at me ever again,"
east picked up west gently and he clung onto her with all limbs.
"do not hurt my brother ever again,"

ge sat there reading his newspaper while the children enjoyed cookies and some milk he'd found stored somewhere.
all three countries were getting exhausted, the oldest for having to talk to people- no, children, and younger two's coming from the milk.
putting the newspaper down and taking off his glasses, the empire sighed and sat back in his chair.
unintentionally, he started to doze off, his eyes struggling to stay open to watch the children. apparently, he didn't need to, because east and west both got up and sat down next to him, leaning on him.
whatever.

"morning, vater. danke, i know this is not your favorite thing,"
the country only grumbled.
"east and west seemed to have enjoyed their stay, i might have to force you to watch them again sometime,"
his eyes snapped up from his feet to his son's face.
weimar wheezed.
"if this does happen again, a word of advice?"
the empire hummed.
"please do not leave marks on my children, my wife will bury you alive,"
the younger country smiled.
"kids, come say goodbye to your großvater!"
weimar called back to the carriage.
the two he had already seen ran up and hugged each respective leg.
"danke, mr. empire!"
west squeaked.
"au revoir, mr. empire,"
east giggled.
"that is french for goodbye,"
he just sighed and patted their heads.
weimar cleared his throat.
"i said come say goodbye to your großvater,"
a moment of silence passed before weimar gave up.
"third, get your ass out here and say goodbye to your grandfather,"
"nein! you can not make me!"
german empire sighed.
"i do not want to see the demon child anyway, it is fine,"
west let out his wheezy laugh.
his grandmother's laugh.
"danke again, vater. i will see you whenever it is least convenient for you. bye!"
without hesitation, the empire slammed the door.
